Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I came home from picking up my son at school and grocery shopping and discovered that in the 2 hours that I was gone, 3 of my ameraucana pullets (and my only serama cockerel) had dropped dead. I have no idea what happened. Broken hearted doesn't even begin to describe it.

Do you have a clue why they all succumbed in the same 2 hours?  No injuries?  A family pet cat or dog that could've scared them or chased them?  That is just too weird!  So very sorry.

So sorry for your loss. I hope you figure out what happened.

Hugs and prayers being sent your way

Lost another this morning. I'm pretty confident that it's coccidia. A couple more aren't looking too great and there's now some bloody stool. The chicks that hatched from my own flock are showing no symptoms. I presume the ones that I've been breeding for a few years are genetically more resistant to whatever strain is in our soil. Everyone is being medicated now. I'm hoping the rest make it. I'm just trying to tell myself that the ones that make it will be the hardiest and best suited to carry on their genetics here.

I just wanted to share a few "teasers" from the new egg color concept cards the Ameraucana Breeders Club is working on. We have over 60 colors collected so far, with more coming this week. These are taken from actual eggs and egg shells. Here are just a few...

Is this why you wanted all those egg shells? I wonder how many more colors you will come up with! Thanks for all the hard work going into this project

I have about 60 right now...I think we'll pass 100 before it's all over. There is a lot of variation in egg shell colors! lol
