Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I was out in the yard and I noticed my Wheaten boy is gorgeous or at least I think he is gorgeous. My Wheatens were the extras Susan threw in with my order of blacks. All the Wheatens are wonderful, a perfect trio. The little girls are the sweetest. Always coming to walk with me always talking to me. I am not bragging about my Wheaten boy because truthfully I don't know what gorgeous means in the Wheaten world but he is very pretty and sweet. I need to take real pics but I snapped these real quick.

My wheaten boy. I think he is a stunner. Yeah, he isn't perfect.. His wings hang way too low, even for a bantam, and he is hetero for peacomb :rant

He also has a silly crow

He has great body shape, and great color and great personality...so he gets to stay one more year.

Finally! The moment is here. The Egg Color Wheel is revealed.

After much deliberation, consideration, and more than one "do-over", the Board has arrived at a decision for the new egg color wheel. A totally new concept in egg color cards, with this 6" x 6" card, with the "spokes" of the wheel showing each color, so you have a full length representation of color, instead of just a small color chip at the edge of the card.

These will be ordered from the printers on Monday and will be available in the store by the end of the week. The Board is still determining the price structure, so that will be announced later. These are more expensive than the earlier cards, both because of the depth of color and the size, but we're trying to keep them priced very similarly to the old cards.

The image below has been grayed out, so doesn't show the true colors.

That black cockerel in the front is very nice. The wheatens take so long to mature, but he's got a nice start. Can't tell much about the black cockerel in the back yet.

I didn't do the Black in the front justice with that picture. I like him a lot. He was in an awkward position and I took the picture from above him. He is the cockerel I am keeping. I am not going to keep the one in the back. Thanks again Susan. It is so funny I am going to end up liking Wheatens more than my "favorite" Blacks.

I know - I fell in love with the wheatens - mainly because of that temperament. But I love the blacks, too - for different reasons. There just isn't much more eye-catching than a gorgeous black all "dressed out" for show. Of course, since I added blues this year, now I'm falling in love with them, too. LOL

So glad you are pleased with your miracle chicks. :)

In my grow out pen I have Black Ams, BCMs, Wheaten Ams, Cuckoo Marans and Bielefelders. They all pretty much grew up together and have been free ranging for a few months. The Black Ameraucanas are free ranging fools and much braver than the others. In the mornings when I let them out of the coop all the birds run for the feeders and scratch. The Black Ameraucanas head for the edge of the woods and are running after bugs, eating weeds and grass. When I first got them they were very fiesty. When I put my hand in the brood pen, they would attack. They have mellowed out and are pretty much like the rest of the group. The sweetest members of the group are the Wheaten/Blue Wheatens. I have two wheaten pullets that follow me everywhere I go and never stop talking. Glad I got them Susan.... thank you!
I'm so glad you have a couple of sweet blue wheaten girls! My little Eve is precious!
