Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi everyone..... I have some questions about true Ameraucanas and their origin, would this be the correct place to post them?

Sure, you can also read a brief history of the breed here, http://ameraucanabreedersclub.org/history.html

And, if you're really willing to dig a little, go through some of the old archived bulletins here, http://ameraucanabreedersclub.org/archives.html

The archives are great, because you have the folks that started the breed talking about what is happen, the challenges they faced, and the progress that was made, as it was happening.

I like that blue wheaten cockerel in the first pic! and the blue wheaten pullet in the third pic. I think the fourth pic gal has some good coloring, but she was probably too hot to post for you. :)

Very nice!

Thank you Susan for the Wheatens! I just love them!

The first blue wheaten male is my favorite also. I thought I had posted a Wheaten male but didn't.

Above picture, I like his coloring best out of my Wheaten males. I was thinking about keeping the one Blue Wheaten and this Wheaten male. What do you think?

Here are a few other Wheaten males. I would like to thin a few out here soon.

I like his profile better than the ones in the next pic, but with wheaten coloring, you just can't tell until the cockerels are at least 8 months old. He (the first one) has a lot of black, and I'm concerned that he may molt out with a lot of that black in his hackles...so, if you can sit on them a bit longer, lets see how those hackles come in. The one in the very back in the second pic looks like he's lacking a nice full muffs and beard, so I'd say you could cull him.

I love the combination of the white faces and dark feathering on the Wheatens. Such handsome birds.

Thank you, At first I wasn't sure on the Wheatens because I heard the blue egg color on some where not very good. Now I don't care because they are so pretty! I am very happy with the birds I got from Susan! Love them!

The White Ameraucana in my avatar got impacted crop. After 4 days of trying to unblock her crop. I called the vet but couldn't get her in to the only vet that worked on chickens. He was out for 4 days. She was so thin I know she wouldn't have made it till then! I did something I never on a million years thought I would ever do! It was life or death!!! My husband and I did crop surgery on her three days ago. She handled the surgery well and I put her on antibiotics. She is eating and drinking. I never knew I could get so attached to her! Before I did surgery on her. I put her in the pen with the other chickens just to get her out of her cage. I left for like 5 minutes and she spotted me and came running to me and leaped into my arms. She wants to be with me at all times! What a love she is! When we did the surgery I was trembling but didn't want her to die. Lots of prayers and tears! I hope she makes it! Doing well so far!
