They can be shown as AOV, any other variety. You can still win Best or Reserve Best of Variety, or Best or Reserve Best of AOV. You just can't compete yet at the Best or Reserve Best of breed level and above. The petition for acceptance of lavender/self-blue has been submitted and accepted by the APA and is in process. However, it will take a couple of years for them to finally be accepted into the APA Standard.
He may grow more now. Until last week there were nine HRIR cockerels and the three Ameraucana cockerels in with five pullets (they were brooder mates. I thinned out seven HRIR so there should be less stress and fewer arguing over feed. I am going to list the second blue and maybe the black for sale.He looks good... Egg color card???@samouw
the egg color cards from Ameraucana Breeder's Club arrived today and they are wonderful. I can't wait to use them on my Ameraucana girls' eggs when they start laying. Thank you for a wonderful product!!!!!! For everyone who is wondering, the hype about them having a lot more of the colors on them is totally true.

Don't feel bad. I've asked my share of questioned that seemed silly to me too. lol The egg color chart lets you know what shade of blue your Ameraucana eggs are. This shows my ignorance, but why do you need an egg color chart?

Thanks. That makes sense.i think most people use them to give a reference point when talking about egg colors on the internet, or advertising on their website or FB. Since different monitors have different color settings, it is really impossible to post a true picture of egg color. With the card, they can say "these hens are laying color #01" on the wheel and whoever has the wheel, will know what they're talking about.
It is also handy to track the color variation among hens in the same pen, or the difference of color at point of lay vs older, or beginning of season vs end of season.
That would have to be open to interpretation. Thanks.Don't feel bad. I've asked my share of questioned that seemed sill to me too. lol The egg color chart lets you know what shade of blue your Ameraucana eggs are.
I wonder what shade on the card is the 'best' color?
