Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Not sure if this is full blood Americauna but I am more curious on whether or not she is a cockerel or a pulled? Can someone help please. I call her a her because she has made no attempt to crow. Thank you.
That's a cockerel. And there is no Ameraucana in that bird at all. He doesn't look like there is even Easter Egger in him. Looks like a Polish mix.

Is there something wrong with this cockerel? He is smaller than the pullet, and the blue cockerels from the same hatch are 30-40% bigger.
we have a black french araucana thats smaller than its siblings the rest were chipmunks, did it happen to hatch later than the rest? and was it hen hatched?
im thinking ours is small due to the fact it was always behind, it was in the nest when the rest were learning to feed, it just started feeding when the rest were chasing flies in the coop,
since it is smaller it gets to mum last when she has food, i think all these can contribute to it being small, im hoping it will just catch up when its older, unless its our only hen lol.

I'm a new chicken owner but one of my two black Ameraucana pullets was the same size at 1 day but by 1 week she was alot smaller than the other one that hatched on the same day, she has now caught up finally. She was just a slow grower or late bloomer. Now I have to really look at them closely in order to tell them apart. They are about 24 weeks old.

Here are two I just took. They are all from 4/2. Reds 4/26

With that much size difference at that age, I wouldn't use him for breeding... he may just be a slow developer, but even then I wouldn't want to perpetuate that in my flock... jmo...

He might be useful if you want to breed down for bantams though...

Oh that's definitely a cockerel. ....but what the heck is he mixed with? Soooo cool looking though! This is my Buff Polish cockerel.......your boy has "somewhat" of a similar stance of Polish but missing the crest.

Also attached is a pic of one of my Black Ameraucana pullets......you can see the body shape if the breed.

FIVE DAYS UNTILL LOCK DOWN!!! Can you tell I am excited about incubating eggs for the very first time?

I originally had 12 BBS Ameraucana eggs that my husband bought me (as a gift) from someone on the Ameraucana Breeder's Club list. Unfortunately my son bumped the incubator and one cracked. It was too bad for melted wax. Then on day 10 I dropped on during candling GRRRrrr I could have kicked myself for that! I cracked it open the rest of the way and the development was amazing.

Anyway I have ten left and they all look good so far.

A single copy of the crest gene produces that small tuft on the top of the head. His coloring is the same as a Buff laced Polish, but he's lacking all of the required genes for clean lacing, which is to be expected in a mix. Polish also have the white skin and can have muffs like this guy.
I see absolutely no indications of Easter Egger in him.

I have Polish..... I was just wondering what he could be mixed with ( other than possibly Polish). I agree with you that he is not an EE either. He almost has the stance of a game bird........ because even when on high alert my Polish never look that straight and have that long of a neck. Cool looking boy though!
