Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So that makes it a cull trait, and the bird should not be used for improving the breed, right?
Is it dominant or recessive?

Lavender, do you remember us discussing this when you got him? I showed you the white spots on his ears and explained that is why I was culling him? At that time, you just wanted a backyard cockerel for your EEs and he would have been fine for that.

I'm glad to see you getting more involved with Ameraucanas and admire your desire to learn more about the breed and breed to SOP standards, but he would not be a good choice for that pursuit.

If you would like a nice cockerel for breeding to SOP, I have a couple of extra here and I would be happy to give you one, to get you started off on the right foot for breeding to SOP. Give me a couple of weeks to get where I can sort through everything and past this show weekend, and I'll let you know what I have.

It has not been determined how it replicates or dominance.

Just based on my experience here, and this is pure anecdotal evidence not scientific, I would render a guess that it is dominate with incomplete penetrance. That would mean that only one of the parents would need the genetics for it to show up in the offspring and it may or may not show up in all that carry the genetics. Which is why it is so hard to get rid of.

Yes, I remember now. Sorry I forgot. There is so much to learn and I've been trying to learn it all at once. Garfunkel is perfect for his olive/easter egger ladies.
Right now, though, I'd like to stick with working with the gorgeous blacks that I got from you. In the future I may decide to build another pen for more varieties, and at that time I will definitely buy my stock from you.

Here are the seven that hatched in the incubator. There is a Lavender or two in there but I can't tell them apart.
What are your thoughts?

From what I can see from those angles, these 2 look like your Lavs/Self Blues...

Get clear pics from overhead and side/front shots without shadows on them and I can be more sure... :)

Thank you. Here are some better pictures.

Smaller one is your Lav, left in 1st pic, right in 2nd pic and the last pic... other one is blue...

One looks blue and the other possibly a lavender.  Is someone breeding lavender in their BBS pen???

No, they just got 2 different sets of eggs that were put under a broody, BBS and Lav/Self Blue... :)

No they are from separate pen but same breeder. I incubated them together and being new to the breed and colors I couldn't tell them apart after they dried. I was hopeful that I had two Lavenders to breed. Thank you for the help.
