Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi everyone! I'm new to chickens, but have read enough to know that I may be jumping the gun here.... But I'm gonna ask anyway!

I have two blue Ameraucana chicks, one is a true blue and one is a splash. They are 5 1/2 weeks old. Any guesses?? I'm really hoping they're pullets, because they are so sweet and pretty and I'm not allowed to keep roos!
First up is the true blue:

And the splash:

Any guesses?

Rayvn, I see you saying you don't use the term purebred, what term do you use?

And does anybody here breed Blue Ameraucanas?

Also, sorry if I created a riff from a question I asked. :/

I use the term 'true'... true Ameraucanas breed true...

And you didn't create anything that hasn't happened here before...

Way too early, I wouldn't even pretend to guess... neither screams cockerel at this time though... pretty chicks...

Back again! It's been another week or two since I posted this ones pics. Would love to get any opinions about sex. I'm thinking cockerel although I had 3 other cockerels from the same clutch that all looked similar with wider and pinker combs that we're clearly Roos to me. The gal on the left was clearly a pullet to me, and then this mystery one I'm just not sure on. Looks more like the pullet than the 3 other roo siblings although, as you can see this one definitely has more of a pigment to its comb. They both have the same personality as well. The former Roos weren't as friendly as these two. I also should note, when I put them outside(coop isn't quite ready yet) the do spar a bit with each other. Nothing serious but both equally dominant. They are both 10/11 weeks.

Does anyone know if "Skyscraper" is a hen or a rooster? I have 3 Ameraucana's- they all look the same. They were born February 14th. They look like hens to me but 2 of them are real jerks! No crowing, no neck biting, the 2 just are WAY more flamboyant than any others, not to mention they just started chasing my dogs!! Thanks for your help!!

I was told this guy was a pure Ameracauna. From seeing peoples replies, it doesn't seem like he is! I thought I bought him from someone who knew what they were talking about... too bad.. She said his mom was a Wheaton and the dad was an Ameracauna but not sure about the coloring.

What are your thoughts?

I know this might not be the best place to look but do any of you guys know of someone working with chocolate Ameraucanas?(I know it's not an accepted color) I've got a bunch of Ameraucana chicks and was thinking it might be nice to mess with another color and improve said color.

Also does anyone know of a type of Ameraucana that is lighter brown(it's hard to really describe) with almost black wildtype markings as a chick? It's starting to feather out completely black. I bought it from some people who had show quality BBS Ameraucanas but they couldn't really explain what color this chick actually is but they kept insisting that it wasn't a EE.

Need good side profile shots... or part the feathers at the base of their tails and look for saddle feathers starting to come in...

Pretty EE... think might be a hen, but hard to tell...

EE... dad would need to be Wheaten/Blue Wheaten or Splash Wheaten to breed true...

I believe @pips&peeps and @Saris are working on chocolate?? Might ask either of them... no idea on your mystery chick... throwbacks *could* happen... I dunno...

Can I ask opinions on the sexes of our chicks? I've got 11 ameraucanas and we can't keep roos. They're all a week or two difference in age, but all will be 10 weeks by 6/1. We made some guesses ourselves last night. Just not sure how right we are. :) We can't really tell that some are getting saddle feathers yet, but some have short tails and some long. A couple seem to have no tails. Can you tell just by combs at this age?
