Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

How old can you start telling the ameraucanas sex? I have some @ 4 wk olds and it seems like a few have more color coming into the area where thier combs will be (don't have any combs yet) ,some just look more pinkish than others. Does that mean anything? Thanks

Does anyone have a couple black pullets for sale??? I am in need of a couple pullets or one really nice hen. Must be solid black. Will pay very well and even send you shipping boxes if your not in driving distance from me... please PM or email me. Thanks,
Donna-Marie

With Wheatens and Blue Wheatens, you can tell the sex as early as 3 weeks....sometimes earlier.

and I hatched out way too many roos last time.

Kathy,

I read that you and others have had trouble hatching these. I would suggest that you outcross to regular feathered ameraucana in your flock before you start breeding them again. These were obviously made by breeding brother to sister because the gene is recessive and you have to have two copies of it for it to be expressed. So now you have some really inbred birds and it will cause fertility and hatching difficulties.
