Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

HappyMtn thanks you again! That is exactly how I did my hatch. The BC Marans were just popping out of the shells along with some misc chickens. So when the eggs never pipped externally I panicked at was sure they were stuck. I was wrong.

They had internally pipped though-and I thought they couldn't get through the thick shells.

I am hatching some beautiful Black Ameracaunas. The second batch of eggs are due on the 10th of March. I also have some of Jubabys soft feathered Ameracaunas due on March 4th and I have seen and heard how difficult they are to hatch. They are dying in the shells without pipping. Edited to say not all are dying. Some are fortunate enough to get some!

I think that is why I panicked, I wanted these beautiful chicks and I hate the thought of them suffering and dying inside the egg. Lesson learned.

Is your splash Wheaten roo an Ameracauna? I didn't know they came in that color! What a fantastic combo you are going to have. I will watch for pictures in the future.

Yes- he's from Tailfeathers eggs. If you breed blue wheaten to blue wheaten you get some splash wheaten. It's not an accepted color though. But- I have a bunch of wheaten girls for him- so all the babies will be blue wheaten. (I'm really liking the regular wheaten more though. The BW look washed-out to me)

I think I posted a pic before.

Sorry Pink Chick! Didn't mean to ignore you--those are lovely eggs and I know the thrill of finding them laying! How old were yours?

All it took was the green eggs to hook me on the breed. And now that the gentleroos and ladies are filling out and looking great Ameracaunas are a must have breed for me

Thanks Germaine! No problem you can ignore me.

They are 7 and 8 mos old. Never had birds that took this long to lay so I have been a little impatient where waiting has been concerned.
