Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Funny thing was, he wasn't really stuck, just didn't understand that he needed to go backwards. Saw a thread recently about chickens not having "reverse" and since reading it I've noticed the same thing - if they can't go forward or sideways, they seem at a loss. Poor guy - waiting helplessly to be rescued only to be met with peals of laughter...

Kathy: I thought the same thing - the old head-on-the-table gag! I seriously thought he'd been decapitated until he blinked & glared. That's when I just dissolved!

I have Ameraucana black and blue large fowl eggs in the incubator right now. The blue chicks look a lot different than the black chicks from the pics online I found. Is it that easy to tell them apart? I'm thinking I want to sell the blues and keep the blacks. Have to see what they look like at hatching time to tell. Thanks, Ryan

I love the uniqueness of hatching these out (I had two black coppers like that) but the sad part is it remains rather undesirable for show, as it keeps entirely an black beak and soles. The soles thing is an issue with Ameraucanas, but with Marans both soles and beak are the issue. Ohwell, I don't plan to show the girls.

Question: do any of you ever come across an Ameraucana with a white earlobe, or perhaps earlobes that are tinted with the tiniest hint of red? I have a black cockerel who I've been bent on keeping for sometime, but I've realized his earlobes are white, but for a tiny corner is pink. I figured he's young, they will redden later on. All of his siblings have red earlobes now. . . They're all 3 months old, but he's still on the pale side.

Nothing to worry of? Something to really worry of? Perhaps they just don't get sun because of the muffs? (that one sounds silly though. . . my other boys are red, and have just as big of muffs)

I'm pretty sure that means they are birchen. (ER)

It probably will not affect the soles of the feet. Most of my birds are birchen based and have slate legs.

How? The mother was black, and the father was black! How could it be Birchen?

Does anyone have any W/BW Ameraucana eggs they'd be willing to sell? I have 1 gorgeous pair I hatched out from pips&peeps last year and the roo would love to have a few more ladies.
