Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

He is the silver I also have the silver pullet from that hatch..maybe a silver roo from the younger ones but so far it looks like lots of pullets. It's usually the Wheaten and the White roo at it but the silver is stepping up.I'm playing musical pens since the flood..right now the Ameraucana's are living in the bantam Cochin pen with them but things are starting to dry out even with rain today so hopefully before long everyone will be where they belong.
It's hard to see in the picture but Mr Wheaten is all beard the kids joke he has sideburns as well he's got so much poof.I have all but one of my babies from Jean from both hatches and hatched more blue and blacks..blue black and lavender/split and some Buff-from beautiful blue eggs are still in the incubator then I'm done hatching until later this Summer...I think

Yeah- I'm done hatching for now too. Besides the fact that we're camping- there have been some really hot days and I've been letting all the wellies & ameraucanas free range together. If I end up with a broody she can have some eggs- but no guarantee they'd be pure. Might get a bunch of olive eggers though!

This weather sucks. All the birds look like drowned rats

Yeah I believe he's the lone cockerel in the silvers here..I have to believe out of all those you sent in the second bunch there has to be another but don't worry I won't complain if they are all pullets

I'm not seeing any hint of roo color but one seems to have more silver around her neck. He's got great size and think the picture shows how beautiful he is.
My Buff's did come from Gary he said he sent you some earlier

I was thinking about just letting my Buffs live in the EE pen-which is making beautiful buff chicks but then I saw his eggs and thought I had to try..so far 6 are candling I figure 1 or 2 chicks makes it worth what I paid for the eggs.Hopefully a prettier egg color will come.My Buff you sent me I have no idea yet what it is...won't stand still long enough or come out from under a bigger chicken long enough to really see it..would think I was a wild animal ready to pounce on it or something..crazy little bed bug but cute with super buff color.I'm thinking pullet only because the quick glimpses we see of it it's not getting any roo look yet and it's small.
My second chicks are going through the ugly stage...had the camera out today but took a second look at them and decided against it...they will be beautiful soon

My chicks are 10 weeks old in these pictures. They came from Mahonri's eggs. Can anyone tell me whether the pullets are Blue Wheaten / Wheaten / or Splash Wheaten Ameraucanas? Does a Splash Wheaten Ameraucana have black tips on the tail and wings? I haven't seen a picture of one yet. Let me know if I need better pics - thanks.

I know this roos is a Wheaten - I just like how he looks in this pic.

Hey.. My chicks must be from the same hatch! Vigor is a good way to describe them! Wow are they active (I got a bakers dozen of BB/S from the Smiths.) Couple more days and they will be a month old. I have one big little blue Roo. He towers over the other chicks even at a month old, and is super friendly. Hops up on my lap then on my shoulder.

I must say I like the toe punch system the Smiths use for identification. It allows me to make notes and keep track of individual birds even at their young age...

My less than a week old BB/S Marans from the Bishops are healthy but seem docile in the brooder compared to the Ameraucana's..

I'm expecting chicks this week from the Smith's. Hope mine do as well. This will be my first experience with shipped chicks. Any advice? dak

Just got my email that mine are being shipped today

I just got the same email, but it doesn't say when they'll arrive. AND my eggs from Ms. Ribbeck are in lockdown and I have my first pip as of 6am. Now I'm going to go take an antacid.

I still need some help on this color business. When I hatch wheaten/blue wheaten eggs, it's possible to get wheaten, blue wheaten or splash from them? Or do they hatch true and you get wh/ bl whtn?

Help! Thanks in advance for info

A three headed broody hen! Ahhh, run for your lives!!!! That is the stuff nightmares are made of!!

You're right about that! Those little clear eyelids that chickens have are constantly blinking too, it's pretty wierd.

I couldn't resist getting a picture last night.
