Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hey.. My chicks must be from the same hatch! Vigor is a good way to describe them! Wow are they active (I got a bakers dozen of BB/S from the Smiths.) Couple more days and they will be a month old. I have one big little blue Roo. He towers over the other chicks even at a month old, and is super friendly. Hops up on my lap then on my shoulder.

I must say I like the toe punch system the Smiths use for identification. It allows me to make notes and keep track of individual birds even at their young age...

My less than a week old BB/S Marans from the Bishops are healthy but seem docile in the brooder compared to the Ameraucana's..

I'm expecting chicks this week from the Smith's. Hope mine do as well. This will be my first experience with shipped chicks. Any advice? dak

This picture was taken about a week and a half ago.

Since I took it, 2 more broodies have joined in, so I have 4 broody Ameraucanas! ...4 out of the 6 I have in the breeding pen, so I'm only getting about three or four eggs a week now.

Both of the 2 new girls are on the top shelf squashed up next to the other one. When you walk up to them they puff up so big that it looks like one giant hen with three angry growling heads! Very scary! I'll have to get a new picture with them all in it. The girl on the bottom is much more docile, thank goodness.

Crystalcreek, not only are your chicks adorable, your photography is exceptional. That first one, or the last, would be perfect for the month of March or April on a Chicken Wall Calender.

It's cold and damp here today so everyone is feeling good and couldn't resist a game of Roo Battle.Time just flies they were just fluffy butt chicks a few weeks ago and now Mr.Macho

Wow- Holly is that the silver? I ended up with a chick the same color from a blue copper (or BW) over white. I was thinking it was silver pencilled, but silver is probably the best description.

I moved all the babies I have left from Jean's hatch into their own little pen- the roos are definitly starting to get fiesty. One of the wheatens has a crazy big beard, so if I do sell off the extras I'm keeping that one!
