Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I'm so sorry about your roo. I am a vet tech. Meloxicam can be used in chickens, as well as clavamox. I don't know if you have access to either of these drugs, but if you do, PM me for the dose. Good luck with your "patient".

I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

There are 5 Ameracauna chicks in this picture. Can you tell by color at this age which are males, besides the dark one? The second darkest one in the bottom picture has a beak problem. Is there anything fix for it?

Beautiful chicks !!!! what are the black & whites ?

Oh i'm partially color blind(no real help here) but judging from dark to light , i'd say 4 pullets 1 rooster .

Thanks. The black and whites are Exchequer Leghorns. I hope you're right about the pullets. I just noticed the beak issue and wonder if it could be an injury. I just introduced these chicks to the older chicks.

It's hard to say without seeing it in person and then there might be doubt(could've got it caught in something as they are so inquisitive !!!) . Best To You . Thanks

We had a few chicks with beaks like that this year it's not an injury...mine came as day old's from some of the best breeders and they are fine for several weeks then you will start seeing the beak issues. It should be fine but not used for breeding stock..but we only had it happen on a few roos not any pullets. It's one of those things that happen with chicks.Your going to love those Checkers(my kids shortened exechequer to make it easy) they are so sweet and beautiful when they are fully grown. I have one of my checkers in with my splash Ameraucana roo right now for some hopefully beautiful EE chicks. The Ameraucana's quit laying when it got over 100 degrees so I need something for chicks

My 3 LF lavs from Jean...please tell me they aren't all boys...they are only 11 weeks old...one of them has significantly thinner legs that the other two. I know my big one is a boy for sure, the other 2 just started pinking up in their combs...

Group shot...yes the one in the back really is that much bigger than the other 2...and the ones in front don't have as much of a tail as the big boy...and he started getting pink around 6-7 weeks of age...
