Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Correct, and if you keep the marans roo, they will all lay some shade of brown.

Ameraucana (blue egg gene) over the brown egg layers should get you Olive Eggers (various shades of green, darker Olive over the Marans).

Right, and over the leghorn they would be blue, and over the light brown layers like the silkies, they would be green...

Does anyone else want to weigh in on the sex of NewHen's chicks?

I have a particular interest in people's thought, as I've let her know that I'm interested in any extra pullets she ends up with.

I don't have any particular expertise sexing these birds, but after comparing to some pics posted earlier of ArizonaDesertChicks wheaten/blue wheaten chicks, I'd guess NewHen's got one Wheaten Roo, 3 Blue Wheaten Roos, and one pullet.

Please tell me I'm wrong...

BTW, here's the links to ArizonaDesertChicks's posts:

Hmm...Which one do you think is a female? There's one really dark one. The second darkest has the crooked beak. Then, there are three more that have much more similiar coloring...which I hoped were the the 3 females.

I'll snap some more pix this weekend. If I end up with 3 females, you're welcome to one of them!

Oh, I'm sorry, I guess only three, on the second thread, the first two look like blue wheaten cockerels, and the third is the wheaten cockerel. The others look like pullets to me.

I think the one above the feeders in the pic you posted is most likely to be female, at least from what I can see in that picture.

It looks to me like that one has the least blue (or black) in its wings.

That's my non-expert opinion based on that one photo (on pg. 325 of this thread)
(Edited for clarity, the links I posted earlier don't relate to the chicks in question now)

Again, I'd love it if someone with more experience with W/BW Ameraucana would disagree with me...

Hmmm....I'll take better pictures of each chick and post them this weekend. Just in case, though, are you sure you don't want a roo? :)

I'd LOVE to have an Ameraucana roo, but I need to keep the neighbors happy just to keep having hens...

If I were you I'd post new pics when you have them to the "What Sex/Breed is this?" forum with "Amerucana" in the thread title. There are a fair number of Ameraucana people who seem to read that forum on a regular basis and will respond to new posts.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

What beautiful birds - I love seeing all of your photos!

I just received my first Ameraucanas today - a Wheaten cockerel and a Blue Wheaten pullet from Michelle. I think they are just beautiful. My husband loves their muffs and beards.

Here are a couple of pictures we took this evening. I can't wait to get my first blue egg!
