Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

OK- please excuse my ignorance, but I don't have the list of standards down quite yet. I haven't been too fond of the blue wheaten girls as they seem to "washed out" to me. I hatched this lovely little pullet that actually has lots of blue. Is it going to fade? Or is she non-standard? She's just a couple months old- nowhere near POL.

She is really friendly- just hard to take pics of for some reason

My two 14 week olds from Jean started making new noises a couple of weeks ago too (they are girls though). They went from making that cute peeping/whistling noise to this really funny honking/cluck sound! They don't sound like my cochins at all, it is so funny!

Sorry your lavender turned out to be a boy

I really love that colour.

Oh, that's ok. He already has a home lined up, I have 1 more the same age that I'm still waiting to figure out for sure, and 3 more chicks that are only about a month old...there's still hope! LOL Both the boys and the girls are so funny when they start making "grown up" noises!

I LOVE the BW girls - they're just creamy sweetness - this girl is lovely. I have three BW girls out there and non of them had this much blue at any time in their development . Too bad, I love it. If you were closer I would try to temp you into a swap for one of my Wheaten girls.....

I've always liked the wheatens better- but she might change my mind. They just started free ranging- her and 2 split lav buddies- and they come up to me several time a day just to say hi. Too cute

I'm wondering if her color is because of the same genetics behind other BBS (splash in particular). Maybe she's "darker" or "more blue" because she's from a wheaten x blue wheaten as opposed to a BW x BW? Kind of like how splash x splash washes out splash?

She is GORGEOUS.

I have two just like her and wish I had a dozen more.

Can't wait to see what they produce with my BW roo.

I think the washed out blue wheatens are from the problem of trying to get enough black into the tails of wheaten hens. The gene turns black to blue, so if there is little black in the tail, then there will be little to turn blue, if that makes sense. This bird is stunning, and I suspect any wheaten offspring will have more black in their tails as well.

That's great to hear- thanks Mahonri, MM, and Jean (who emailed me). I plan to put her with Santa- the wheaten roo from Jean with the super huge beard

His wheaten sister appears to have nice color, so I hope this will all work out well

Any chicks will be a mash-up of at least 3 bloodlines, so we're good to go there!

EGGS!

I want to find someone.... SOMEONE who has BANTAMS of blue wheaton, buff and lavenders that are laying some eggs!

I need bantams because of space, and need light colors because i have mostly dark colored chickens at the moment and i like variety!

please post pics of parents and pics of eggs!

i would like to purchase 6+ eggs. i would like to find someone who has all three colorations in bantam size, if possible. and is willing to part with about 2 eggs of each
