Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Whew! I feel so much better now.
Who said that?
I was on a BYC page and a "moderator" blasted me and another "new egg" about us having EEs. I later corresponded with another breeder from that thread and he said their shape was possibly incorrect.
Judging my breeder:
I am not judging my breeder - he has been so very gracious with me - I apologize if it sounded that way to anyone. He is a nice person to work with.
My birds:
I prefer the look of Wheaton males and females to Blue Wheatons. I am so new to this and I have loved this breed since I heard of the on the Martha Stewart show about 10 years ago. I have researched them since then but "genetics" is a bit beyond my experience level to say the least.
BTW:
"Elvis" is not for sale at any price, his personality is so unique, but if any of you good people want one of my cockerels - other than Elvis, they are free to a good home. I live in Joliet, Illinois. I planned on giving some up - or cooking them - but the cock fighting in this area is very widespread and I don't want one of my babies being used for bait.
To Every One:
Thank you for sharing your ideas, experience, comments and suggestions. Now, will you help me breed them or do you reccomend I stay within a smaller comfort zone?
PS Pips & Peeps:
When my DH ws on facebook he was bragging about our chicken "Americannas" I used your quote: THERE IS NO I IN AMERAUCANNA" Thank you.

had hoped for more but when we opened the shells the chicks were severely deformed missing parts and all kinds of not so great stuff to look at...shipped eggs. Will have pics of the cuties soon they are still cleaning up their fluff Hopefully a few pullets so Sam my roo can have a few friends..who knows what they will be named but
we finally found a name for our Splash Roo that we got from Garners this Summer..names kept rolling off him and none stuck..then the other day I was talking to a rather famous Charlie that lives close to us and began to chuckle...my splash Ameraucana roo looks just like him salt and pepper gray with a big beard

Hi all. I've been following this thread for quite a while. Lots of interesting discussions. Anyway, I was given an EE hen 2 years ago. I fell in love with her at first site. She's so 'unique'. I have a mixed flock as of right now. Mostly dual purpose chickens. My step-daughters want to show chickens in FFA and 4H. Of course, they need pure breeds to show. I have given it a lot of thought over the past several months. I am leaning towards 3 pure breeds. I will have each breed separate from any others, of course. I had decided on Silkies as one breed, just because I think they're beautiful. I knew I wanted some Ameraucanas, also. I have the chance to get hold of some Blue Wheaton/Wheaton Ameraucana hatching eggs. I've only seen pictures, but they seem to be beautiful birds. You all have inspired me with all the talk about preserving true breeds. Don't get me wrong, I love my EEs but I think it's also important to keep the original breeds going. After all....that's where we get all the others, right? Anyway, I will be asking for a lot of advice in the future, I hope to glean lots of great info from you guys.

Yep looks like you have some very nice blue wheatons and wheatons good luck with them! Yep eat the roosters if their is cock fighting in your area. Sorry if its sounded like I was angry about judging your breeder. Who know maybe the moderator just doesn't know much about Ameraucanas who knows what was going on. Your birds are beautiful though congrats!

That is one skill I can say "pass" on. If I knew what I had at hatch- I'd never stop hatching. And then what about all the little roos? I like knowing they had the same TLC in my hands as if they were something I planned to keep forever. (and many of them are

How do I know if they are true Americana'a? I just paid 14.00 each for 2 new ones?
