I think your birds are easter eggers from what I can see in the pictures.

Jeremy,

I would consider your boy show quality also. It is very hard to get a wheaten/blue wheaten without the hackle striping and they are shown all the time. In fact I just showed a wheaten boy with striping in the hackles and won Champion AOSB with him this weekend.

His tail looks great to me. The standard says orange shafting is allowed in the sickles.

He just has a white beard which has been a problem in my flock. (and this may be normal if he is still less than 8 mos old)

I am hoping to get a cockerel from Barbara Campbell this fall to correct it and go back to working on the hackles and tails.

What nice comments for me to read first thing in the morning!
Claude is still young, he hatched April 1st, so that makes him just over 6 months old. When his beard isn't covered in muck or wet it's more blue towards the bottom. Is there a chance it could continue to grow in blue?
I'm hoping he still has some filling out/maturing to do, overall though I think he's absolutely gorgeous.

There is one thing I'm concerned about though, if I ever do show him, you can see it in the picture I just posted- one of his toes on his right foot is crooked, would this be a DQ? If so, is there any way to correct this?

There is a chance it will get more blue, but I doubt if it will turn all blue.

I did see the toe just now; and unless you are a orthopedic surgeon you can't fix it................

Hahaha, no, unfortunately I'm no orthopedic surgeon. How bad of a fault is this considered? I think Claude was a bit squished inside the egg, or his footing wasn't as sound as it should have been in the incubator, thus the crooked toe. It's never slowed him down though! I hatched 2 BW cockerels, I culled the other because his blue wasn't as rich in color as Claude's was. He looked a bit washed out, he has perfect toes though...

Jeremy- sometimes their toes look crooked in pics even if they aren't. Depends on what they are standing on. I love Claude especially his "girth" or whatever you call how nice and wide he is. I have one about a month older and he's still sooo lanky and awkward looking. So glad he came home for you!!!!!
