Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Mine have completely stopped laying PERIOD! I have BBS and Wheatens/Blue Wheatens/Splash Wheatens and they aren't laying at all. I don't have my breeding pens set up either. I just have them all lumped together. I have some with crazy beards but mine aren't laying. John doesn't have BBS anymore but he has some Lavenders if you are looking for them. Little Ameraucana Mom's are still laying which surprises me because she lives about 10 minutes away from me and mine have completely stopped! She has Lavs and BBS and some of my stock (3 Hens) came from her and I've won alot with my one black hen. 1 Reserve Champion Bantam, a Reserve AOCCL, a few BB, and a few BV. Even before she turned 6 months old! I would look there

2 weeks ago I decided to mix my layer pellets and flock raiser together to up their protein. I also added cayenne and red pepper flacks also. In a week I went from zero eggs for almost a month to 3 eggs a day so far, hopefully it will increase each week.

I've had all mine on Flock Raiser since they started moulting, they've been done for quite a while, and still no eggs!!

I switched over to flock raiser and added black oil sunflower too. I actually got an egg from a cochin today and I was so happy I screamed. Hope this means they're coming out of it. Thank god for welsummers! (well-the ones that aren't broody anyway!) Plus they always get turnip greens or celery.

ETA: I'd like to know more about the pepper flakes though.

I just mix half layer pellets and half flock raiser then mix in about 1/2 container of pepper flakes and 1/2 container of Cayenne pepper. I have a 10-15?lb feeder. I was getting dispirit (store bought eggs were going to be in my future) and I kept seeing pepper being used on other threads, so I I tried it. It maybe coincidence, but either way I got a few eggs out of the deal.

So far I only have been gifted 3/15 but it saved me from the other option. I just reloaded their feeder today so I will keep you posted.

Honestly. . . . All my Ameraucanas except ofcourse my new Buff pullet and a couple Blue Wheaten pullets have stopped laying and went into molt, but. . . I started to feed them half flockraiser, half layer pellets. . . It increases the egg production of everyone else, but if anything, it seems to slow down the molting process. Or maybe I'm just imagining that it is.

Oh and of course my dark blue pullet. I get about 2-4 eggs a day from the Ameraucanas; One blue and the rest Blue Wheaten or Wheaten. I just wish my new Buff cockerel would actually breed someone, because otherwise I don't think I'll have any Buff project started until A) he starts breeding birds or B) the Buff pullet starts laying.
