Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Quote:
is this the same Wheaten that was on the Ameraucana Breeders Club Forum and had a huge thread because of something. She's a nice bird. Is the picture dark or is she a bit gingery?

Yes she is.

She has the best blue tail feather so all of my hens. Of course, her body color is on the darker side, but I figure that bred to another bw, it will lighten. My original hens hardly had any color at all, and now that I"m a little more educated about them, I'm sure they were splash bw's.

So, I'll keep trying for that nice blue, 3 of my pullets have good blue, and lighter bodies that are the more correct color.

Yes it is here's the link THe thread went off on a tangent about judging ameraucana's
My one BW hen has almost no coloration in the tail...

Well I probably shouldn't be saying this but oh well, I sort of half hazardly stumbled upon the Ameraucana breeders forum and I don't think you are allowed in there unless you are a memeber but I kind of stalk it. I'm now just waiting untill after the first of the year to become a member. I've been meaning to do it for months but i just haven't gotten around to it. But anyway I read it. I'm not sure if all of that is completely true or influenced by a few biases. lol She's a nice hen. I have a blue wheaten pullet that doesn't have much colore in her tail but clean hackles but then I have a pullet with a nice colored tail but ticking in her hackles!

If your rooster had that black hackel tip, then he will throw it to his offspring.

Its hard to get rid of.

Some Wheaten & Blue Wheatens have hackle feathers that have black or dark tips at the end of the feathers, instead of the feathers being all the same color. It is not desireable.
I had a wheaten roo that it didn't show up until he molted for the 1st time.

I don't think so- as long as you have a decent roo with clean hackles. If they are like other breeds- you can sometimes balance too much color with the right breeding, and it's actually beneficial. I'd like to see what Jean has to say about this though.

My little rooster Rusty has clear hackles I believe but he's kinda light there though. my hen just has a little ticking.

Heres some pics

Oh how cute! You have to love the bantiies. You can't even see the ticking on the hen- I have some LF that have an actual ring of black polka dots around thier neck. I think they look great

They say there is never a dumb question. What is a silkie feathered Ameraucana? My first thought is an Ameraucana that has the Silkie fur.

Oh nO! PepsNick will need to keep the thread updated and post pictures. Wow, how much fun!
