Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Try to google some pictures of orpingtons, cochins or dottes and you will see the loose feathering. They are very poofy and fluffy, an ameraucana has more "form fitting" feathers.

Okay. But I think I understand now what you mean. I know what the Orpingtons and Wyandottes look like so that helps in my understanding. Thanks. I will be looking for some Ameraucana soon.

Yes! Finally some more activity here. I have so many photos and every time I post, I seem to kill the thread at some point.

One thing I notice in your Blue Wheatens, same in mine, is the annoying eating of the beards. I have some girls with absolutely NO beards, just a bald patch. . . Anyone here know any ways to prevent that? I'm sure there is a culprit, I just don't know who. All I know is that even if I introduce a bearded Polish in with the girls for a couple days, even his beard disappears.

I'd love to find a solution to it sometime soon, so when my girls are done molting, I can get some good photos of them this spring. Full beards and all.

From reading some stuff on the marans thread, I am pretty sure I'm going to use some of my lavenders with my marans to make olive eggers. I'll keep some of them pure, but I want that colorful egg basket. Right now I can't get enough eggs to fill all the orders I'm getting. (Eggs for eating. I haven't sold any hatching eggs.)

It's really hard to place an early order like I did, and then have to wait so long for chicks!

Except, the only guy the ladies ever saw was that Polish. Otherwise, they're preferring each other to be clean shaven. Although beards they don't care about. . . Muffs they do.
