Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Sounds about right. Wheatens and Blue Wheatens are pretty easy to sex just by feather color. . . Most, if not all, boys will have a lot of black or blue, and their other colors should be more of some red popping in instead of creamy Wheaten coloring.

Here is an example of a BW and W cockerels at about 3 weeks. Females will look creamy with little to no Black/blue

Are you sure those two are only 3 weeks old? I know my memory isn't what it once was but seems to me mine didn't look like that until they were about 5-6 weeks old? That's one of the reasons why I hope this year to be able to create a week by week photo album of my chicks thru their first year.

God Bless,

God Bless,

You may be right I was approximating there age because I usually kick them out of the basement at 5 weeks so maybe they were closer to 5 weeks. I know they were more than 6 weeks...should have label my pictures. These were last years prespring hatch.

Thanx for the genetics info.....I had been debating on how long to wait and bate some eggs, but when I went out this eve I found that something had attacked my splash boy(see blood on toe) and took a little chunk out of his leg. I'm going to try a hatch, just in case he gets infected and doesnt make it a couple more Mos. I'll put in 4 from my white(background), 8 from my blacks and 2 from my EE( just in case hatch rate is low) Hopefully Ill get a few good ones.

The culprit ..... Im not good with tracks, so Im not sure what it is. I set a live trap out by the pens, and will see if anything gets caught.

Sorry about the predator. Fall and winter are always pretty bad here- you have to have everybody in Fort Knox at night.

Do you have a side shot of the roo? I want to see more of his color- don't know if I've ever seen a splash with a solid blue back (it looks like in that pic), but that would be really cool to see.

Yea, this isnt my first go-round with a predator..... eventually, i'll get him

Yea the back is mostly solid blue, I was running low on light this eve and didnt want to stess him any more than I had to. I'll see if I can get a better side shot tomorrow. Is he not a splash with a solid blue back ?

New to this thread, but I have a question. Has anyone ever heard of Platine Bleue Ameraucanas? I bought eggs the other day (I only have one laying) and they were Pete and Gerry's brand, a New England cage free brand at my store. They were a pretty green blue, and they claimed to be a rare heritage breed, Platine Bleue Ameraucanas. When i went to the website the hens in the picture looked just like my Rosie, who I know to be an EE. Are they on the up and up?
