Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

It is totally discouraging. I was planning on having some of her eggs in the incubator by now!

The really lousy part is that she had three sisters, all of whom I lost to a predator. Not that I don't love her, but gosh, it figures that the one who doesn't lay (or maybe lays the wrong color) would be the one left behind!

Illia - have you ever had a pure Am lay any color but blue?

i am far from being the most educated about this breed im learing myself , but i would say poser just my opinion tho im sure others will be able to answer your question more correctly

Feather color aside, true Ameraucanas only lay blue eggs. It is possible though that the breeder introduced something else to improve color or some other aspect of the birds, and it's a throwback I guess...though I'd think they should have told you...

Not sure. No experimentation that I am aware of. And like I said all from very reputable breeders (I think) on this site. So they should be pure. Very hard to narrow down which hen is laying which egg.

I have a mixed flock that doesn't leave their coop, so it is hard to get a pic of only my Ameraucanas. I will post some of the girls and let you guys see if you can pick 'em out! I think you can

Hope you can see them. I know they are EE's as I bought them at my local F&S which gets them from a hatchery. They do lay green eggs that are very pretty.

They can be true ameraucanas and not lay blue eggs. You just should not breed that hen and expect to get blue laying offsping. %&it happens. I waited soooo long for my first true ameraucana to lay, and there it was.....I was sooo dissappointed. I did let the breeder know and they made adjustments in thier flock. If you don't tell them they may not know and the problem will just spread. Remember- this is still a young breed- and anomalies do pop up here and there.

No, I can't pick any Ameraucanas out of the crowd. I do see some EE's though.

No. I think Lavender Ameraucanas may have a chance due to their background but otherwise no - Ameraucanas should never lay brown eggs. Green are okay, and I guess I should say yes, I've some girls who lay khaki green ones (Buffs and one Black) but I've never experienced a brown layer.

x2. From what I can see, you do not have any Ameraucanas at all. There is an EE thread, if you want to tell about them there.
