Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I think the word we've been passing around is poofy, and yes, mine are poofy! Some orp was used to improve size since lavs were originally bred up from bantam-sized breeds and tended to be undersized. It is also why some of us are fighting greener eggs than a normal ameraucana. Happily, HappyMtn seems to have hit the motherload with the blue egg dept! My splits from Jean lay a pretty blue egg too! We'll get there, one day!

I noticed that also, the more dull color in the eggs. That concerned me. Luckily HappyMtn just told me that she has hatching eggs. I plan to order from her, soon!

Yes, poofy, brilliant.

LOL- I had to buy chick bands for the first time so I can tell Crystalcreeks chicks from my own. I hope we can combine what we have and get some big healthy lines of lavs going with even better egg color. I'm so happy to have these and be a part of it all

Night y'all. Will check back in 3 days, hopefully with good news about my newest hatch! These are eggs from the Ribbeck visually black pullets, but I know at least one is a split. Hoping for a few good lavs!

Yes. It creates a pale blue. Often the blue really isn't that pale compared to some Ameraucana eggs, too. I've got an EE who is half Easter Egger, half Polish. She lays a very nice true blue egg, hardly very far of a rich blue from my Blue Wheaten's eggs.

That's exactly the cross I have in mind. I have two developing now for a hatch 3/7 because I thought the pullets (if that's what I end up with

) would lay a pretty little egg for my eating-egg customers. I think I'll set more to hatch...not for breeding...just to add prettiness to the egg cartons!

Well, that, & I'm a hatchaholic...hehe

Plus - it's my wheaten roo over a silver-laced Polish...I figure the offspring will be some nice laying flock eye candy!!
