Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The original hen, looks a little Wheaten-ish to me, but only gets the tawny on the front end.

The young roo. Looks pretty white to me, but I know what's underneath that! LOL

I think he's very handsome! I would have snapped him up if I could have a roo.

And his peachy sister, spitting image of mom.

So far I have hatched 4 single combed lavenders out of about 20. I know they are still a project bird but that seems a little high. And since they are single combed, what color eggs will they lay?

Are those the pure or second generation split to black??? I can't remember. Which ever they are, they have hatched like popcorn so far this year, not a problem with one of them!

Not exactly sure which ones, I got them as you had just separated them back into pure and split pens. They have split written on them but you had just seperated them so I don't know which pen they came out of. I just have make sure I mark any that come out black so I don't get them mixed up with my BBS. What is the best way to mark day olds?

Put them in a lingerie bag to hatch an then toe punch them.

Jeremy, I am on the list to get a red orp cockerel when they becomee available. There was a gentleman working on them, but health issues forced him to get rid of the birds.

I like that peach faced hen.

So I received 9 W/BW/SW day olds from Paul Smith on March 7th-ish. Out of those 9 chicks I have 1 Wheaten cockerel, 1 I suspect is a Splash Wheaten cockerel (pics to come...) and 7 W/BW/SW pullets!

It's like last year all over again! I hatched eggs from Jean and ended up with 2 Wheaten cockerels, 2 BW cockerels and 7 pullets then. I'm starting to wonder if there's something in our water causing all of my chicks to be baby girls...

I really wanted a couple BW cockerels to grow out this year to hopefully find a suitable replacement for my rooster Claude in the next few years. It looks like Claude might have lucked out this time though!

I still have 20 BW X BW eggs in the bator from Wayne Meredith, tomorrow will be day 10. Maybe I'll get a BW boy from that hatch...

And the reason I got eggs from you for New Years was with the hope that I'd get one... no such luck..

BUT.... I have a blue wheaten roo from your eggs that will give Geoffry a run for the money... He is GORGEOUS and I can't wait to see how his hackle feathers color out.

So is this the baby you thought was clean faced? Did he feather in poofy?

I've often wondered about Orloffs for a spangled Ameraucana, why NOT use Mahogany for a Red Ameraucana, too! Almost seems like it would be a shorter route than an Orpington. What am I missing? You're up PNW, Jean, isn't that where Ehrling (sp?) is with the gorgeous Mahoganies?
