Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Curious... Are Ameraucana a smaller Large Fowl than other breeds or just slower developing? I have six Lav Ams that are 3 weeks old with some other breeds of the same age and they all are a bit smaller at this point - some more than others. Not nearly enough to be concerned about, but enough to ask the question...

They are a smaller large fowl. The lavs in particular (mine anyway) are kind of slow at first and then they eventually catch up. I haven't weighed all my birds, but my lav and wheaten hens look the same size, but my lav roos look bigger than the wheaten and black roos. Might just be because they are a solid colo, or have that orp fluffiness- not sure.

Thanks, guys. lockedhearts is going to start with the BW/W and is going to take this good looking boy home with her next weekend. Maybe by then, his color will be more clear to me. He's definitely darker than Levi was. He's super friendly and calm. Again, I got a boy with no girls in his color family. I'm destined not to have any W/BW girls for some reason.

C'est la vie!

Cynthia, ALL I'm hatching/receiving this year are W/BW pullets!

I wanted a couple BW cockerels to grow out and see if I could correct some of Claude's faults with one of his kids. Well, I have 2 Wheaten cockerels and 1 Splash Wheaten cockerel and that's it! NO BW boys at all.

Granted I have like 15 BW pullets running around... but still!

I have 6 chicks from Wayne Meredith and 1 from my own breeding that are still too young to know what they are, they're my last shot this year at a BW male. I'm unplugging my bator on Thursday after some OEs are out.

Here's to hoping at least 1 is a boy!

I think I will have a couple of extra blue wheaten boys from my Paul Smith order if you'd like me to keep you in mind

Looks like I have 4 blue wheaten boys and 8 blue wheaten pullets. I'm going to have some extra buff chicks from Wayne Meredith also.

I can finally post on this thread. These are some white Ameraucanas from NoseyChickens here on BYC. They are just 1 week old. They certainly do seem a little smaller than other 1 week olds I've had but they are cute nonetheless.
