Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Feather color doesn't have anything to do with egg color.

I'm getting ready to rehome some of my 2 year old hens that are still laying (albeit less frequently) if you don't mind driving north a bit.... and they lay blue eggs.

I think your best bet would be to order hatching eggs. It costs the same (Flat Rate) to ship to HI as it does anywhere else in the contiguous US, right? Get yourself a cheapo bator and go for it. I think that would be a lot easier and more people would feel confident mailing hatching eggs to HI than live birds. That's MHO.

Happy Mtn The splash roo is the full brother to the sport's grandmother, (in the pic with him) and who did not show leakage. The splash roo is also the father of one of two potential mother hens. I'm not a coffe drinker, so that's why I stay in a perpetual fog all the time.

You have to have the same import permits to ship eggs there too.

Well, the one I was almost possitive was a rooster tried to crow this morning. I missed it but apparently it was pretty cute sounding according to my husband. Now, I just need to figure out what the other 6 are.

Ok. I'm confused! What is a "sport" bird? Is that another color pattern?

I have a chick that is starting to look like the hen in your picture. What colour is that? (I LOVE the color, btw.) All these Ameraucana colors are SO confusing. (I hatched Blue and Black eggs. The Blues and Blacks are easy. The Splashes are a little trickier for me.)

sport is an unexpected genetic result. Usually a result of recessive genes, much less likely a mutation. That pattern I have been told is "silver" but it is called other things in other breeds, like Columbian, Coronation if it is diluted with lavender (or self blue, the APA recognized name for lavender) LOL the common names for mutations are confusing with the different breeds of chicknens. And some of the traits like silver can hide shank color, which under the inhibitor gene may actually be black or slate legs.
