Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Yep! In my sometimes-not-so-humble-opnion they are the best of all chicken breeds. My Wheatens bring my family and friends so much joy. They are freindly, beautiful, charismatic, affectionate and purposeful. What more could you ask from....anything?

I wish they would hatch 90% female!

Mine do, I've got pullets coming out of my ears this year!

Hey, BBS ameraucana people, I need help.

I have a batch of three week old chicks from my BBS pen. Roo in there is a blue from the Gardner line. Hens are blue and black and are from Pips&Peeps. One little black baby hatched out with white toe tips and a lot more white on its face than I have ever seen before (picture white rings around its eyes). The other black chicks have the typical white chest and dark legs. This one is a freaky little anomally though. Are there ever these random color throwbacks? It is definitely pure ameraucana, just colored weird.
I'll try to get pictures for you.
Thoughts?

I also raise BBS and I have had them this way and even my blues have thrown one but they color out normal when the feathers come in....they might have a few more white tips on the end of their wing but should loose them like normal.

You're welcome

Here is a picture of my last hatch of blues and one black.

The one on the top left has excessive yellow but is coloring out normally.

As far as the toes go, you can see the blacks little toes....they darken up and usually have a white middle toenail but dark legs and feet.

Congratulations! I've got some of John's chicks and I'm really excited to see how they grow up. John was super to work with, too.

I am stoked. I have missed this years hatch but that is ok. I will gladly wait till next spring for them.

I think your best bet would be to order hatching eggs. It costs the same (Flat Rate) to ship to HI as it does anywhere else in the contiguous US, right? Get yourself a cheapo bator and go for it. I think that would be a lot easier and more people would feel confident mailing hatching eggs to HI than live birds. That's MHO.

You have to have the same import permits to ship eggs there too.

For eggs? No kidding. Someone from HI told me it was the same as the contiguous US...I guess it pays to do our research.
