Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

DH wrote down that they are 8 wks but for some reason I remember her saying they turned a month old but anyway, I am glad he wrote it down, I think too we get our conversations mixed up cause we were on the chicken hunt and we looked at a lot of pullets/chicks that day, so it could be me mixing up who's who

hipeatall: I didn't mean to sound ugly or mean, that statement come out all wrong about the lady who sold them to us, after thinking about it, I think she truly believes she has true ameraucana and she made a statement that she will continue to bred and sell them, she was so proud of them and was showing off the roo/hen picture, of course I didn't study the picture I was just excited about their colours, they were all so pretty. Thank you for the link, I am going to bookmark, I've been and went through the site, thank you.


And again, that statement came out all wrong and I apologize for that, I am in no way mad at what I bought, it is a lesson learn, I love my EE's even if they are as wild as can be and want nothing to do with us

Last month I bought me two trio's of Lavender Ameraucna's. THey are still babies though, I'm gonna give them a try, never have had Ameraucanas before, always have had EE's and still have them.

Treats work wonders. Start by offering tempting treats in your hands.
If your coop is roomy enough sit inside and chat with them.
At roost time talk to them and pet them. Rub under their beaks, mine love this.

Just a warning, following these tips can create spoiled chickies that demand to be cuddled and given lots of attention.

BooBear: thank you for the advice I will try it, I want them to able to comfortable around me instead of screaming their little heads off and hiding. Since I am home a lot I have been going out and just sitting near their favorite spot but I will try what you suggested, my other hens are spoiled, they hear the back door and come bolting out of no where, then they stand and stare at ya till you give them something.

Our neighbor saw the dark EE sunning in the yard and she thought it was a hawk, she was like there's a hawk in your yard, your gonna loose the little ones but I reassured her it was my new EE, Hawkeye sunning herself.

I have had several people stop my husband to ask what birds we have in our yard, so I am happy that they are so popular, one man wanted to know if he could have their chicks if I bred them and I don't mind my neighbors watching our chickens, the older couples we have tell me it is so entertaining to watch them. My single lady neighbor moved a lawn chair to face our backyard so she can watch them

I think we may have started something, called chicken fever

My 5 one year olds I have had for the past year were skittish at first, but after me going in and out of their coop, feeding, watering, giving treats etc., they too now come running when they hear me nearby. I can even pick them all up with having to chase them if need be. I did nothing special when raising them to get their trust - they know the hand that feeds them
