hi everyone,
i thought i would post this here since ya'll are the ones who will know.
i have wheaten and blue wheatens.they are from 2 different lines.all of the roos have combs that are too big.the combs are good until they hit about a year old.i think they should have nice little pea combs but they get they get to looking like a blob on their head.is this common in this variety?what variety has the best comb size so i can compare them to.
If you are using the genetic calculator yes, silver duckwing. But when referring to color description for correct plumage use the standard.
Thank you Jean. The page 248 you refer to, is that from the SOP publication of the APA? [I'm not a member, and will not be untill they resolve the issue with the term "lavender".]

A cockerels comb will get bigger in the heat and I believe that sometimes when a bird is raised in the "South" the combs have a tendency to grow larger.
Yes, Steve page 248 of the new SOP.
Jeremy, we are having "issues" with the APA regarding the term "lavender" which we want to name our new variety. With the ABA, I'll just have to hold my tongue for now so I don't say something I will regret.

thanks Jean,
it is about 96 here today.well i can't do anything about the heat so guess there is no need to work on breeding that out of them.

I just culled 2 blue wheaten roos I hatched last year because their combs were like that. I have a b/w roo over my free range flock and his is nice and tight(he came from eggs from Jean in 2009). I hate the blobby combs so I don't use them, it's actually how I buy eggs too. if the combs are like that I move on....JMO
eta- the 2 culled roos weren't from Jean or my roo...wanted to clarify
