Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Thanks dldolan! She is a beautiful bird and she sure does look alot like mine, maybe I did get the real thing??? I guess I might have to wait a while to tell for sure. I love the fluffy cheeks and I am going to try to keep my two friendly. They already come and stare at me when I talk to them, instead of running like most of my feedstore chicks I have bought in the past have :)

While Cackle does have some pics on their website that look like true Ameraucanas, at least one of the pics (the blue Ameraucana hen) I know I have seen somewhere else before. They may have permission to use it, but I do not think it is their photo. Also the one on their site that resembles a silver hen has yellow feet. If they came from Cackle I am certain they are not true Ameraucanas. Sure might look like one though!!

I sat on the floor with this batch of Blehm babies and let them walk on me, snuggle up, etc. Their personalities sure came out... but often I would have 6 or 8 chicks snuggled in a line down my leg while i was sitting on the floor with them, music playing and snapping photos. Here she is sound asleep. All I had to do when she was little was scratch her neck and her eyes would droopingly close... See my plaid chicken boots??

See in the pic above with my Silver AM and Chantecler with the BRIGHT yellow legs and humongous feet? Her (the Silver AM) legs are quite a bit darker than the Wheatens... Why would that be?
Here is one of the Wheatons and my white dude, Norbert:

The wheatens legs do start out a lot lighter, and in general darken up quite a bit as they mature, but are still a much lighter shade of slate than other varieties. Most of them start out looking white when they are chicks. How old are those girls?

In this picture they were about 19 weeks, and now are 23 weeks. Both started laying about 14 days ago, and I am getting an egg every 2nd or 3rd day. Pale blue. The Silver's cheeks have just started to redden up, so I am hopeful that she will start pretty soon... Here are the Wheatens (Scotch and Rye) 10 days ago:
Rye jumped up on the wheelbarrow next to where I was sitting. She is a friendly girl.

Scotch is the lighter of the two.

Together, butts up!
