Super! I'll have to tell my friend that she was a bit misled and in turn, she unintentionally misled me. I'm glad there are good folks like all of you to help out those of us with less experience! I'll plan, then, to look at the Wheatens a little more closely and see if I can find a few girls or eggs.

I wondered about it, too, but I deferred to someone with more experience than I have. Live and learn!

I think it would be a wonderful asset to the ABC to have more people focusing on the continuation of the brown-red ams. I wish you success in your pursuit.

I have looked at the ABC website, I only found two people who will ship live birds, (Mike is one) and I've sent them both emails. I don't have an incubator yet, hence the need for live birds. That and I'm kinda hoping to start with live birds and worry about hatch rates at a later date. Gonna have to bite the bullet and buy an incubator if I get a project, but...

I think that is a tough call. I've gone through a bazillion Little Giants before I broke down and bought a Brinsea 380. If I had gotten a quality incubator from the beginning, that would have saved me so much money, time and heart ache!

Even though shipped eggs are a gamble, this is the best time of year to ship eggs (no extreme heat or cold). If you have a few more breeders to choose from that can supply hatching eggs, I think it would be worth a shot. I'm not familiar with the brown-red breeders on the ABC list, but as with anyone selling eggs, take precaution to KNOW what you are getting, and ask as many questions you deem necessary in advance.

That was a good spot! You're right!! I just ran out in the rain to double-check. No white feathers showing at all. Now if I can correct the wonky comb; it's definitely a pea comb but it's much higher in the center row. I'll be interested to see what chicks he and the black pullet will produce, once she matures a bit.

And I *would* like to get some Brown-Reds, if only for my own education and to help forward the color. So I still plan to contact Mike Gilbert for some eggs and birds.

I should have wheaten eggs again soon. I owe a few dozen to other BYCers when they pick up the pace, but I think I actually got 2 eggs today. Either that or one of my OEs lost all of her red paint!
