On the birds with the crests, I had some like that when I was breeding the original Harry Shaffer lavender birds. So, they are probably carrying lavender from that original line a few years back. I culled all of mine that showed up like that and didn't have anymore after the first year.

This is why I don't like it when people use others names to sell birds.....

I didn't put their breeding pen together and neither did Paul Smith.

Right, totally understand that. On the other hand, people want to know where your line originated when they are buying eggs or birds. Seems like that is done all the time, not necessarily to sell birds, but so people know what the line is. Yes, I was told they carried lavender, so that is exactly what happened I bet. Thanks for your input, these will be culled as well.​

Why are you culling them? As some folks have pointed out, they have good traits and possibly some faults. If you are looking for Lavs; I believe they should produce Lavs if they are all splits.

From what I was reading here, I thought the experts were advising to do that. I'm totally new to true Ameraucanas. If both birds have the crests, won't most of the offspring? I don't know for sure if they will produce lavenders, that would certainly be cool if they did

, I think the lavender birds are beautiful. But like I said earlier, the pullet has not been a very good layer, which means I'm holding on to this pair until spring probably before I see another egg. Which I could do

right now they are in a pen which I have relegated to hens that I don't want in my breeding program but that are still laying, the Ameraucana is the only one there that would lay blue eggs, so I'd know which are hers--but if I leave the cockerel in there, then I still don't have a place to put my extra spangled orloff cockerels

; I've got a lot of different breeds, so pen space is limited. Maybe Jean could chime in here and tell me what are the chances these would throw lavender. Do both parents have to have lavender gene to get lavender? Now maybe I misunderstood the seller, but this is what I wrote down that she told me: "Male is blue, hens are black and split lavender. Chicks should be blue, black & lavender". But when she said "chicks should be blue, black, and lavender", she was talking about the chicks that could hatch from her shipped eggs, only 2 hatched, the ones I posted pics of. Sounds like only her hens were split lavender, so in that case, could I still get any lavender from this pair? I'm so confused

Well.....I actually just sold off my LF Ams...just have the bantams now...

BUT I can tell you who to get eggs from if you want more babies from their daddy...

Sounds like his personality is just like his daddy!!

BUT I can tell you who to get eggs from if you want more babies from their daddy...

We have some Buff Bantams from Mr. Blehm. The female is not looking too good, I don't think she is a California Girl. She is on electrolytes and has gotten sulfadimethoxine for the past three day, for the second time as I did the same thing last week. I'm not seeing too many eggs in the future. One of my friends has a trio of Wheatens from the Rileys in Southern California. The females have almost solid wheaten tails with very, very little black, and the same with the wings. He is looking for new Wheatens to work with, so I was wondering if I could breed them with the buff male. I know buff is primaily wheaten based so the only problem would be the mix mash of color changing modifiers present, but with little black in them I was wondering how the F1 birds might look.
