Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The bronze leakage (I call it blonde) is common in the Lav roos. It seems worse when they are out in the summer sun... If your Guinea hen is picking on his tail feathers, that leaves no room for us to critique really.

So, the question begs to be asked...do you want to breed for more Lav Ameraucanas? ( You mentioned in your last post you have all straight comb birds.) Get yourself some decent black Ams and put him to good use. From these pics, I can see no reason not to use him. Everyone started somewhere. And of course, he'd always make some beautiful EE babies. Can't go wrong either way.

Jean - I'm in LOVE with your birds. Just look at how cute they are at 3 and a half weeks .... and I got all 5 of them this time. Maybe wishful thinking but at this point based on combs and tails - I believe both Blues are females and I have 2 Black males and 1 Black female. I would LOVE to hear what you think.

This one is "Jean" - and my favourite. Can you tell??? (Girl? I hope ... )

You can use the wheaten girls to make splits, but your f1s will look like EEs. I am not quite sure how you pick which ones to breed back to the buff roo. The girl that knows all about that , Illia, hasn't been here in a while. I am needing to know as well since I ended up with all boys after several tries.

Yes Illia and also you can PM JerrySE. He's a brilliant (but humble) geneticist.

I understand the basics on how the genes work, but I'm wondering the actuality of what would happen. If the offspring would be buff with black tail leakage, or wheaten with buff breast leakage in the male.

I know- pics would be helpful. I am going to look on the ABC forum and see if I can find anything there.

According to the Genetica Calculators~ Wheaten x Buff = 50% Pullets, black patterned buff (incomplete) Columbian clear necked
50% Cockerels, black patterned buff (incomplete) Columbian clear necked

I have 5 Wheaten x Buff chicks due to hatch this Sunday and I am very anxious to see if the calculator is accurate

Good news is I have people waiting for my culls to add to their EE flocks
