There are lots of unidentified genes involved with the buff coloration, so the kip calculator may be off.

I figured as much. Some of my Meredith buffs had what looked like lavender leakage in the roosters tail and around the face so maybe he used blues? So it will be fun to see what color they actually turn out to be

But how do you know which ones are the culls?

Now that is a good question

I plan on keeping the pullets that lay the best colored eggs and have the least amount of black and breeding them back to a buff rooster who hopefully came from a bluer egg. I guess it is a game of trial and error

What do you plan on doing with yours?

I don't have any girls, so I am just going to keep a few pullets with nice type and breed back to the buff roo. I just wish I could see what they're going to look like- will they all have leakage? Or just the males? Will they be dimorphic in any way? The kip calc doesn't always show things like that.

I wish I had some wheatens laying- I would start tomorrow. Well, not actually tomorrow. I have everybody except the lavs running together and its complete chaos. My marans has all my roos in the wrong coops. Its so funny when you leave it all up to them

Chickee do you have Bantam or Large Buffs? I live near Modesto, CA. About 1 1/2- 2 hours south of Sacramento. Im not sure if i will do the cross but im keepping my hopes contained for this Buff bantam pullet. She has watery eyes, crusty beard and she has lost some weight... She also does donuts in the cage when you try touching her, and i mean in a circle in a bantam cage. I am worried that she may have something. But it is quite the weather shange from Michigan (i believe) to California. She is on medication for one more day and she gets Vit/electrolytes every day.

I need to separate out my black lav split girls with my lavender rooster who is in with my BLRWs and get the black lav split rooster from my friend for my lavenders. He is a real beauty out of a black Smith rooster and Shaffer lavender hens
