I saw those pics HappyMTN posted, that's actually what gave me the idea of a barred ameraucana! I'm pretty new to chickens, but once I have a year or two of experience under my belt, I hope to start a project pen. And I think the barred ameraucana might be the task for me, I know I'll never get it to ameraucana standards, but as long as beautiful Easter Eggers are created I'll be satisfied![]()
I have regular cuckoo as well as lav cuckoo going- since I was working with a pen of lav, split, and black girls. I am getting so many lav eggs, I might be putting the project pen back together soon if you want in on it. BuffyGrl and Kate (in California) posted more pics on Jerryse's lavender cuckoo easter egger thread.
BoggyBottomBantams explains the whole "what you can expect when working with one barring gene" very well on that thread. I will have to bookmark it next time I see the thread come around.
I have mixed feelings about the whole egg color thing. I have one of those white layers, and she has made the most beautiful blue wheaten pullets that all lay blue eggs. So happy I didn't pull her- what a waste that would have been. It was dissappointing at first, but worth it in the long run.
