Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I had to quickly scan over the previous posts but wanted to say about 3 years ago I lost power for 3 days in May. The incubator was full of eggs from 2 days old to 2 weeks. I did get a generator but if I remember right the eggs were not cooking for at least a full day and a half if not two. I don't recall exactly what the hatch rate was but I do remember it was a very good one and if I remember right they hatched like two days late.

On another subject, I called the # from the CL ad where they were misrepresenting their eggs by using Clover Leaf's picture. Y'all might like to know a couple of things. First, it was not a "she" but a "he". His name is Jeremy Smith. And second, he was very nice and very apologetic. He told me that he had really gotten "harrassed", got like 15 emails and text messages, and didn't know it was such a big deal. I explained to him why it was and that with the internet today he needs to understand that it's a very small world and word travels very fast. I told him for one there's a lot of misinformation out there about Ameraucanas and those of us who have them want people to be able to have the truth and not be misled and secondly using someone else's pictures without their permission just isn't the right thing to do. He agreed and again was very apologetic.

So, I thought y'all should know that because your efforts worked! The power of people standing up, making their voices heard, and not just looking the other way actually works! Truth matters and speaking up for it works. Obviously, folks need to be confronted in the proper way but they need to be confronted and wrongs need to be righted. I only wish we could see this on a much larger and national scale.

Bravo Zulu to those who let their voices be heard!

God Bless,

God Bless,

Thanks Tailfeathers for letting us know of your conversation. Sounds like you were able to help the person understand the concern we were all having.

Yes, thank you Royce. It wasn't my photo, but I appreciate you calling him. He was extremely argumentative in the beginning, perhaps if he had been more the way he was with you from the start, he wouldn't have been so "harassed"... :/

That's great Royce! I am so glad you were able to have a conversation with him. I hope he will take pics of his own eggs/chickens for his ads!

I cringe as I ask this with all the EE/Amer debate but I have a perfect pair of Blue Wheatens....I have been desperatly looking for another hen for 2 months.Willing to pay well and drive a few hours to get as I am scared of doing the whole shipping thing. The other day I saw a CL ad for 2 Amer hens...with Ameraucana spelled correctly so I had hope. She emailed me a pic and it was hard to see as she had to do a wide shot and show off her roo next door. The gals for sale looked wheaten in the pic but the roo and hen in the adjoining pen were def a EE roo and hen ( hen actually looks like a perfect silver Amer in person) so I asked if the hens for sale had hatched from that pair knowing if so they were EE. She replied no and said she had ordered them from Cackle and the others(EE) from Meyers. So being someone who will not consider hatchery birds after my first 6 TSC chicks that started the obsession and knowing to research I went on the Cackle site. All the Amers are as one catagory but the pics show various true color birds. So hoping that they may actually breed true birds but don't give a color choice and send what colors are availible I drove 2 hours to arrive to a mess. One hen is a dark looking wheaten but with a smokey full muff, eye color is good and legs are dark blue slate...other girl is swmae legs and eyes...even smokier muff and black spots all over. I was dissapointed for sure but she then told me price and at $10 each I still bought them. She said they laid a blue/green egg and I have an EE that lays the same.Today I got 3(1 from my gal) of the perfect pale sky blue eggs! So here is the question...could they be Amers that are crossed color(like wheaten with blue or black?) and how dominate is the wheaten gene if I hatch from my Blue Wheaten roo?? Can I breed back to wheaten?? I have several local folks who are bugging me for wheaten amers constantly ...
