Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I am very intrigued by this project myself. I have decided to use Blue Sumatra hens. The lacing on the hens is amazing. When I get some pics I will post them, and you'll see why I decided to use them. The other big reason I decided on the Blue Samatras is because I had zero leads on nice Blue Andalusians. I tried to email somebody in Spain to see if I could get some eggs shipped, because that is how serious I am about it, and I never heard back. I wrote it in English, and Spanish. So it wasn't because of the language. I also like that the Sumatra's have pea combs, I have never seen this cross, so it will be interesting.

Join the ameraucana breeders club and work on it with us! I don't think anyone has talked about bantams. You could work on blue bantam ameraucanas using your bantam andalusian.

I think a lot of breeds of birds that are blue are supposed to have lacing but do not. ( Not to be confused with self blue or Lavender.) I also discovered that blue marans are supposed to be laced but at present only have edging. It is now my mission... laced birds of the world unite! lol
Ok but really, this is my pet project. Laced blue ameraucana.

Daughter's going to be better eventually. The people that stole my birds, however, are not, when I catch up with them.

Sorry to hear about your daughter

.

I had some one come and steal some of my birds. It was someone who had bought some chicks and wanted some other hens that were not for sale.

It freaked out DH so much that he said that no "chicken people" are allowed to come to the house anymore. So I meet people at the local feed store. It is either that or no more hatching. I can't say I blame him.

My hubby is the same way... and I agree! Someone local had her geese stolen, they bought some birds off a CL ad and came back to help themselves to the geese. She got them on camera and got the birds back too. If I have people to the house, I don't show them were the REAL GOOD BIRDS are

Thanks for the feedback (it's been a of couple days, my query is a couple pages back). I emailed the guy that I bought my chicks from because I thought he might want to know that what he sold me didn't meet the breed standard for Ameraucanas. His reply was that the chicks I bought are from flocks that are proven to produce blue eggs. So, is the only definition of Ameraucanas that which is on the ABC website, even though (as far as I know, at this point), my birds are muffed, bearded, tailed, slate legged chickens that lay blue eggs? The chicks have little downy muffs and beards, though they don't show well in the pics I posted. I'm not looking to breed or show them, I'm just pretty dang nosy.

Oh that is exciting! I know nothing about sumatra. What color skin do they have? What color eggs?

Are you on the ameraucana forum? Post your progress and results there if you are. I think it would be great if everyone pooled their info and worked on it together.
Jean Ribbeck is also working on it with english orpingtons I believe.

One day maybe blue ameraucana will actually look like the SOP describes them! I am so excited that more people are working on the lacing.

There is a difference between true Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers, but what he sold you were 4 Easter Egger chicks. True Ameraucanas, with the exception of silver which is a fairly rare color, are never "chipmunk striped" as chicks.

I'm confused about this... I've heard it before but when I looked at chick pics on the ABC website, some are chipmunk striped.
