Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi Meghan,

I just went into the ameraucana thread for the first time and your post was at the top of the list.... I will defintely have a wheaten or blue wheaten cockeral from my hatch (Peachick or Azriel) that you can have once I am sure who's who. Just let me know if you still are looking in a month or so I would be happy to give you one or two.

John

Are you ever in NJ?? I would love one but don't think I could make it all the way out to Long Island :(

Sorry- I don't get out past Long Island much

You can use Vetwrap to make those shoes too. That will not stick to their feet either. you can use a pipe cleaner and make a drawing of the foot and bend the pipe cleaner to fit the foot and use the vet wrap to hold it in place.

yeah it is a issue here too. I am in the high foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Many Hawks , foxes coyotes owls bobcats Mountain Lions some bears skunks and raccoons. I generally only loose the lighter color chickens. faster smaller birds are better when there are lots of predators. I recently lost a lavender ameraucana to a fox but so far only 2 chickens. knock on wood

I feed the Purina Flock Raiser to all of my birds from chicks to adults. They get ground flax seed, red pepper flakes, ground kelp, and DE mixed into it daily, plus a handful of whole oats, BOSS and free choice oyster shell. Makes for some healthy birds with super shiny feathers and very tasty eggs rich in Omega 3

I can't let my birds free range due to Bobcats and Coyotes so I add the kelp or Alfalfa leaf to make up for them not getting the grass.

If anyone needs Blue Wheaten Ameraucana roos I have three if them that hatched out from Peachick eggs I purchased this spring. I live in Kansas so pick up only. They will be ready to go in about a month or so. I am still watching them grow.

Can anyone tell me what is the preferred color in roos - the darker blue or lighter blue in color. They will have the full muffs etc. VERY, VERY, VERY FRIENDLY and SWEET birds. Jump on you hands and LOVE attention. Just came to them natural as I did not nurture them more then any other breed that I have. I have to say these are some of my "favorite" birds.
