Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have one very dark blue that could probably look black in certain lighting.
I don't have any splash pics - but here are some blues and blacks.

Well hopefully not, as she was vent sexed by an expert twice as a day old chick [via a breeder who's used him for many years with great accuracy]. Of course, there is always a chance a mistake was made. :) We'll see though I guess. What specifically are you looking at?

The comb, it is pretty well defined already. Most pullets have no comb at that age.

Oh wow, cute baby

thanks for posting.

Now I see why i don't have a splash-LOL! Very different coloring on my crew.
Here are pictures of my splash chick. She's still only about 5 weeks old, but you can see her baby color and now her feathers. She's a love and has more "splashes" on her now than the picture actually shows. :)

For a pet she is good! No worries, talking about breeding for SOP. Yes the dilution of the gene creates problems like it does for dogs etc............It seem so to be the self-blue/Lavender birds that get the problems. Blue Ameraucanas have a pattern gene for lacing. It seems they don't have the same challenges.

where can i learn about chicken genetics? What does the lacing look like? I did notice the wing feathers on my babies seemed a little thin in spots. sort of like a barring effect...they are too small to get a good shot of but I will post a pic when i can.

aw lovely chicks! This really helps because my crew is much like yours. I think i do have 3 blues and one black. One of my blues is lighter than the other 2 but wow your light one is almost cream colored...beautiful. thanks for posting them

Very welcome - I don't know if their coloring will change as they get older, these are my first Ameracuanas. But they are super sweet chicks!
