Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Congrats! What a little cutie. It is very exciting to hatch your own eggs.

Good afternoon! I've been a lurker for a while and have reading a bit of the thread every day. Wow it's long! I'm still back in January, 2012.

I just thought I'd post a couple of pics. I ordered some Lavender Ameraucana hatching eggs. I gave most to my uncle and just hatched a few for myself. Out of 4 chicks, this is what I got.

# 1 - when I emailed the seller about this one I was told she must have accidentally sent an egg from her Isabel project. I haven't read anything about that one yet. Can someone enlighten me? Also, I think the darned chick is a boy. Wrong color, wrong sex lol! Sigh...EE.

I'm posting from my phone. Sorry about splitting up the post.

#2 - Correct color. Single comb. Sigh.

#3 & # 4 look nearly identical, so I'm just posting a photo of one chick. Correct color & correct comb. Does it look like they'll develop muffs or beards? They have very slightly puffy cheeks. I assume I should just re-home these 2 as well? I don't have enough space for a separate laying flock.

Lavs are not perfected yet but from what i understand you need to breed back to black to get splits and lavs to improve on those things like straight muffs, beards and combs find some good quality blacks and go from there. They are in the project stage there is a thread on BYC for lavender breeders and i am waiting on chicks in the spring from Paul Smith to get a good start on them but i plan to help breed them true and get the color approved as well.

Hi there!
I have 2 hens that I was "told" were Ameraucanas, however, I think I only have one. I'd love it if y'all could tell me if I'm correct on the one.

Lola is what I think is a white Ameraucana. I'm thinking that Fiona reddish (not sure of the coloring) EE. I've gotten bluish green almost aqua colored eggs from both of them.
I also believe that Happy (Black Frizzle Cochin Banty) and Lola got together and made me a pretty baby(yellow peep) I do see muffs, not sure if she has the beard, so maybe she's a Frizzle Ameraucana? Wondering what color she's (guessing) going to be, she's not showing a true white with her frizzle, and she has several black spots on her, one on top of her head! lol
I'm not sure who the other chick belongs to(black and pale yellow peep)... They are 12 days old today. Maybe Mac (White Laced Red Cornish Banty???)Not sure about what Mac is, other than a straight run of bantams from the feed store that bought from Ideal. Both of my roos are 6 months old, so I was totally surprised to see them playing baby making games.
Thank you for your opinions! :-)

These are all EE if they are laying minty green eggs True Ameraucana only lay Blue eggs no green.

Quote: Not true. There are pure ameraucanas that lay white eggs. It is a breed characteristic, and of course blue eggs are desired, but nature doesn't always work that way.

As for the goofy lavenders, if you get them from an unimproved line you are more likely to get single combs and clean faces. Best to get from somebody that has nice blacks in their program.

Please don't tell people that. Egg color alone is NOT what makes them EEs, or any bird for that matter.

Ok so EE are a cross are they not? They tend to lay the greenish eggs if the above poster is saying that her hen is laying greenish eggs does this not make her hen an EE? Maybe i came across the wrong way here. Her hen is a white hen that lays green eggs so are you saying she is pure Ameraucana? Please enlighten me here cause it seems i am confused now.
