Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Pips&peeps: I was sold a chick when I went to pick up my Houdans that was said to be a Wheaton Ameraucana. I have my doubts though. She does not have green legs, that I am sure of.

Age is around 4 weeks. I really don't care if she is or isn't. I don't have any intention on breeding her. I purchased her solely for coloured eggs. Either way she is pretty and useful. comb is non-existent, but is a pea comb.

Unfortunately, aoxa, there are LOADS of EEs masquerading as "Ameraucanas" in Canada - even at the shows. Ameraucanas are very poorly understood here, it seems.
Indeed! I will stick to the bantams for now. I know they are true.

Apparently we are hosting the national next year locally here, so hopefully someone will come with true Ameraucanas. I really would like to have some standard sized birds.

No doubt, "Baker and Goodfellow" will be there. They (he) is working with LF Ameraucanas now. I've seen his birds. They are respectable.

There are a few of us in Ontario working with LF Ameraucanas. I am close to the point where I might be able to provide some B/B/S eggs from very worthy stock. Waiting to see how my first hatch grows up and some plans for another batch in the fall. Just getting going with Lavenders. Still need some time with those. But maybe a year or so from now if all goes well.

I would LOVE an excuse for another road trip to the east coast. I LOVE your part of the country!!

If you come up for the nationals, please please PM me. I would love hatching eggs :) I looked through your album, and they are very nice. I am very new to the show scene, but they look like very respectable birds. I LOVE BBS too. That would be my colour of choice.

Yes, our province is very scenic. Lots and lots of trees. Lots of farms. It's very peaceful. Moncton is getting big now though (compared to 10 years ago) and driving in town kind of freaks me out. I much prefer the back roads.

I think the thing I like most about New Brunswick --- it's ALL "back roads". Even Moncton seems pretty "tame" to me. Compared to Ontario, you have it made. (New Brunswick is, perhaps, the Montana or Wyoming of Canada.) I fully intend to retire in the east one day ....

I will be patiently waiting on my shipment of Ameraucana's from Paul Smith in TX of my pretty black and Lavender pure babies
