Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Two Pullets
Why are they pullets? Thats what I am thinking but why? Is it because the males heads turn white at this stage?

They are mostly tan. If they were boys they'd be mostly black or blue. No idea what the white heads are about...

Ignore the Lav Orps. Of the 4 Ams, 3 are boys. See how the one is mostly black and the two are mostly blue? The pullet is the one that's buried and see how her feathers are mostly tan?

Any thoughts on color or sex on these guys? They will be four weeks old on Thursday. (Please ignore the lone Blue Isbar and the Silkie mix behind them all.)

Reyvaughn, these are from your eggs...

And for Christie Rae: This guy is a Black Am x Blue Andalusian cross. He's very pretty, but camera shy... I have a bunch of pullets of the same cross, but they're all black. He is almost 15 weeks.

I had the camera on the wrong setting, so these are kind of washed out.

Hey that is some lacing! But boy look at that andalusian body... sigh* So much work ahead of us.
Do you have a pic of the andalusian parent?

I don't have a current one, but I'll get out and snap some more. Some of the pullets have the same andy body style as this boy, but some of the girls look very similar to my pure blacks - huge beards and nice round bodies. Genetics are funny, aren't they?

Chicken genetics are so fun. I can't wait till my little squirts are old enough to breed so I can start hatching some AndyXAm crosses too!

Phew.. sorry for the picture overload.. Had to share. :duc Any tips, advice on them? I really like the male and the blue female best for looks, but that could just be my own preferences. I just love their lacing!
