Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

It's pretty hard to get out. The wheaten and blue wheaten lines still have it pop out and it has been years since they were created.

I don't know exactly what was used to develop them either, but enamel white still pops out.

I just got three lf silver laced dotte chicks to start my project and have some bantam eggs in the incubator. I could have been started with my project about now if my cockerel hadn't have expired from this heat. :(

I am shopping for a rooster too. I actually have 2 SLW x Blue AM roo. I will have to get the pics. I stink at the calculators. How hard is it get rid of the comb? My crosses seem to have the rose comb. The roo is black with white leakage, it will be awhile until the pattern is fully developed. The hen is a dark blue. So dark that I can distinguish much yet. They are still really young. The SLW rooster that I had before was attacking my daughter, then started to attack adults, so he left. I have 5 SLW hens. I really never thought of using them. So Jean I am not trying to be a copy cat. I am just way a head of the game, instead of using the Blue Andalusians.

I would cross your birds and pick out the onces that are laced and go from there. You will have to hatch lots of chicks. The comb is going to be hard to get rid of. The cockerel I lost was a single comb bird too; which is easier to get rid of...... :(

Okay, I thought I knew what to expect when my splash cock got on with the black hens here but... I have my first hatch here (woo hoo) but one looks black, one blue and another splash. I only have two splash girls and two lavs-- they don't usually lay with the others though as they have and prefer their own coop. I thought it was only black and splash progeny here BUT... I might be wrong.
Now Barngoddess.... I got up early and went out in the dark barn to take these with a baby on my hip and all, so go easy. I know they aren't as nice a photo as yours are or even as cute of babies, but I need a few ooohs and aaaahs for them anyway. I didn't have any cotton candy here so I got what I got.

This is the one who came out first so I got the best pix of it but there are more now. Will send a few on to you all so you can comment on what they look to be. My best guesses are, as stated above, blue, black, splash and a cross.

These two are 1 month. Too early to guess sex? First two are same bird, last two are same bird. Thanks

These all look blue to me. They just will be different tones of blue.

This is my blue rooster Emmit He is 3 years old this year. He is from Paul Smith chicks that came to PA in 2009. The hens like the beardless look. They have lovingly picked it off. Any thoughts on this guy. He has been to a couple of shows, with no competition.

My thoughts: The hens should leave the beard alone ;) He's handsome!
