One died after hatching. Is this normal? It wasn't strong at all. They are all the wrong feather and leg color. All yellow legs.. I worked so hard making sure everything I did hatching was right.

They all have brown feathers. The two that are living are super cute and will go to a loving home as a mixed breed. I'll take pictures later after they fluff up.

I don't know that I'd say it's exactly "normal," but it's unfortunately not uncommon. Especially with shipped eggs and especially if you do not have a lot of incubating/hatching experience. Even with tons of hatching experience, sometimes things are just beyond your control. Losses can occur due to a number of reasons. Temperature or humidity fluctuations during incubation, what the parent flock were or were not fed in the days or weeks prior to the eggs being laid, microscopic/invisible to the naked eye damage to the eggs during transport, and even genetic anomalies can all cause chicks to die in the shell or shortly after hatching.

I'm truly sorry to hear that you are going through all this. So much excitement only to be bitterly dissappointed.

But hopefully, once you've had a chance to catch your breath and cool off, you'll find you are learning MUCH from all of this. Hatching eggs from anybody requires a thick skin because so many things can go wrong.

Huh. Single combs and yellow legs? I thought pea-combs were dominant? Didn't they come from blue eggs? They don't even sound like EEs..

As sad as it is just think of it as a blessing in disguise. When a chick hatches that has serious things wrong with it but it doesn't die right away and you have to put it down.... now that is hard core. One of the hardest things I ever had to do...put down a fluffy peeping chick. I cried and cried.

Can you please go back and edit your post then? Paul Smith is a VERY reputable breeder, and you stated that his eggs were not pure.

uhm just pointing this out she said the eggs NOT from Paul Smith, how is that saying that his are un pure????

This^ X2 She stated these eggs are not from Paul Smith but she has other eggs that she purchased from someone that has Paul Smith Birds and sold her those eggs locally.
