Has anyone considered using the blue bantam Ams with really great lacing to introduce that to the LF? I keep reading about using different breeds, but if you just used the bantams, then you'd just have the size to contend with....???

Like I said, I cannot show birds so the laced blue project is my passion.
Quote: OOHH! Yours are soo cute! Yeah! I am really cheerful about the cross. The leghorns are really good layers, they never take a day off! They are excellent free rangers also. I hope to have pullets that will lay bigger blue eggs more frequently. Can you feather sex yours?
I never tried to feather sex them. The leghorn part will show the roos pretty early. Those combs get red quick on the roos, At about 1-2 weeks I can pick out most of the roos.

You will need to wait at least a few months before you rehome any if you are looking for "show potential." Unless a chick has obvious faults like a single comb, feather stubs on the legs, wrong color legs, etc, you absolutely can not tell this early which ones are "show potential" and which ones are not. There's just no way, even if you've been breeding, raising, and showing the breed for decades. That's why many of the top breeders (of most breeds) often don't sell hatching eggs or chicks...only started juveniles and mature birds, because they know that you can't truly evaluate a bird's show potential until they are mature or nearly mature.Should I wait a bit to rehome or do it now? I only want to keep the show potential. Or is it too soon to tell what these little ones will look like?
Here are the eggs they hatched from.
Quote: Unfortunately, I've sold out of almost all of my bantams, but this generation, they have very wide lacing. I've been going back to black to improve the lacing, and it's been working. My last 2 pairs are marked for donation at our fall show's breeders auction. I'll try to get some pics soon to show you...![]()
Most of my chicks. One splash is not photoed. The splash will go to a new home when the legs are fixed, has splay leg. I assisted the splash from its shell, the chick was too big for the shell and could not zip. Today he/she is walking after making a bandaid splint, she will make a full recovery. Sorry for the poor quality photos, I only have an iPod touch for the Internet, my computer died.
Here are my cute fluffy chicks.
Pink, I taped her toe due to curling.

Yellow orange, her wing feathers are coming in solid blue, I thought she was a splash, but I was wrong. She needs to be washed a little also.

Edit to add, I love, love, love the black ones too! They are beautiful grown, so are the blue too. Oh heck, I love them all and I'm in love with this breed.
