Ameraucana

I think I know what you're talking about, it's like panting but a little more neck movement. Sometimes my girls do that when they get excited and eat too fast. I've always thought that it was just them moving stuck food down their throat. Interestingly enough, it is a behavior that I've noticed more often in my ameraucanas/EEs, although I've seen it in a few others. I wonder if that breed just has smaller throats, as an accidental side effect of breeding, or if it's just a coincidence. :idunnoEither way, I don't think it's anything to be too concerned about unless it persists on a daily basis.

That was why I brought it up...The brooder has been kept the same temperature for all of my chicks(three breeds now) and the Ameraucanas are the only ones that I've seen do this...Also, I apologize if I sound ignorant, but I'm not sure what EE is...I've seen many others use it as an abbreviation, but I don't know what for Lol

No worries, it took me a while to figure out some of the abbreviations on this site too. :) It's short for easter egger, which is not technically a recognized breed. They are mutts but are often sold by hatcheries as ameraucanas, since they look similar and usually lay green/blue eggs.

Are they still doing it? Is it constant or just every once and a while?

That one should have been obvious to me, actually 😏 Usually they spell it Americana when selling Easter Eggers though, but yes, many tend to do that.

They stopped as soon as I repositioned the light, so I guess that must have been it Lol Definitely glad I asked, I had no clue. They weren't trying to escape the light or anything, just panting, but it's fixed now 💖
