She is a blue egg layer, but not sure if she is an ameraucoana. I had read in a book that alot of people refer to all blue egg layers as ameraucoana.

So, Aracaunas only come in one color of plummage?? Maybe mine are EE's then? They have the beard, but they all look different. My eggs have all been a very nice pale blue. I hadn't really looked at their skin. The legs are bluish though.

Also, I was under the impression that Aracaunas are not "standardized" and not suitable for show?

It is an EE.

To get an Amercuana, you will have get some from the Amercuana Club breeders to get the good ones. Pips and Peeps, Tailfeathers, Pasofino are the few of BYCers I know of that has the "real" thing.

First, Araucanas and Ameraucanas are 2 different breeds. I would go to the Ameraucana website to learn more about them, and see all the correct standards and colors...there's more than one correct color. http://www.ameraucana.org/index.html

Sorry, didn't know that either! Thx for the link.

Wikipedia had a good rundown on it too.

Mine are EE's then. (Thanks hatchery for false advertising!!) I will update my sig!

They're cute and they lay blue eggs....I am fine with that.

Exactly...I got mine from Ideal Poultry, who sells them as Ameraucanas. But I knew from the beginning that they wouldn't be the correct standards. I'm not interested in showing, so I really don't care about their exact colors or markings. I think they are very pretty anyways and I actually like the diversity, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the blue and green eggs I get.
