American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

I love my buffs. Favorite birds on the entire farm. The hen in the first picture (bird in the front) passed away last spring, and the gander (in the back) has moulted since and gotten all his nice feathers in. Even the gosling is all grown up! Really need to get some new pictures of my buffies

Such beautiful geese, I just love my Buff. very sorry to hear about your girl.

I was so upset when she passed away, it was a freak thing, most agree it sounded like a stroke. Someone gave me two buff geese eggs after she passed away, and I was VERY lucky to have one of them hatch. The gosling was very weak, and very late, so I intervened and did everything from internal pip, to zip. I gave the floppy, soggy gosling to my hen that had hatched eggs that same day, and she gradually grew stronger. Shockingly enough she lived (gosling in the previous post), and has been given the fitting name Lucky. I believe its a female so I now officially have a pair!

I have a question. I have a trio of Buffs, and 1 blue male. Someone told me I could breed the blue to buff, and I'd get both colors, with out getting smutty coloring. Is this true??? I'd really like more blues.

I've posted this before, but it's been awhile. I copied this from an email I received from Holderread's Waterfowl:

Blue x Blue → mostly Blue, Some Lav, occasional Gray/Saddleback
Lav x Lav → Lavenders, rarely Lavender Saddleback
Blue x Lav → 1/2 each normally, occasional Saddleback
Blue ♂ x Buff ♀ → usually Blues, occasional Grays
Buff ♂ x Blue ♀ → males are mostly Blue and occasional Gray; females are either Buff or Cream

Can someone tell me what kind of goose this is I saved it and have no idea. And if it's a girl or boy?

First of all I'd like to say "Thank You" for rescuing the goose. I don't know what situation you found her in, but I'm glad she now has you to care for her.

I had a pretty hard time determining the sex of my geese and they came to me already sexed, so please take this response with a grain (or two) of salt !!! In my defense, I thought their leg tags had gotten mixed up at the hatchery. They didn't...lol !!! Anyway, I think your goose is really a gander and he looks kind of like my American Buffs. But like I said, don't quote me on it!
