I would think that if it were an infection (like an abcess), it would feel hot, or at least warm to the touch and maybe even a little bit tender for him when I touched it, but IDK.
Tomorrow I'm going to have my girlfriend help me restrain him better so I can take a real good look at it. Until then, I guess I just cross my fingers and pray that it's not something
so serious as cancer or so infectious that he goes septic on me. Thanks for your help. Any other ideas are always welcome too!

If the bump gets any worse, i'd try him on a little tetracycline. Good chance its an infection of some sort which the tetracycline should take care of.

how about a bee sting or spider bite. you say you looked real good inside his mouth so nothing stuck in there. How long has it been like this? My gander stepped on a yellow jacket a couple years ago it took about a week for the swelling to go down. Hope it's something that simple. when you get help feel the are for actual bumps inside and out. look at his skin under his fathers for a bite.

OK, my help should be arriving home in another hour or so and then we're off to look in my gander's mouth for signs of...'something'.
Part of me doesn't want to find anything

, but a bigger part of me hopes that I do find 'something' and that 'something' turns out to be minor.
At least then I'll have a tangible 'something' to deal with instead of an unidentifiable 'something
caf.gif
'. I really dislike those ubiquitous mystery
afflictions !!! Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and help. I don't know where I'd be without you all (probably at the Vet.'s office
spending money I don't necessarily have...lol !!!) I'll post more after I (hopefully) know more later tonight.

Thanks Again.

A couple years ago a member posted about their gander having swelling under his chin [bill] well she finally was able to check him out a come to find out he had a stick lodged under his tongue it actually came through the skin behind his bill under neath so look under around and which ever way you can while you have help.

So my gf finally got home and I didn't have as much trouble convincing her to help me as I thought I would (you see, she's not too keen on geese in general and my gander Gus in particular. It might have something to do with the fact that he approaches her as if he were in a jousting tournament and his head and neck were his lance that he was going to use to impale her). I just hinted that it might be in our discretionary funds' best interest if she were to help me by holding on to Gus while I looked in his mouth...she relented in record time !!! (The last time we took one of our animals to the Vet. it was one of our Cayuga ducklings that had swallowed a piece of twine and I was afraid he wouldn't be able to pass it without causing irreparable damage to his insides so we took him in to see the Doc...yeah, that was the year where the only souvenir we had from our vacation was that darling drakes little
piece of twine...lol !!!). Anyway, she helped me and I got a really good look in and all around his mouth and bill, even lifting up his tongue to make sure
nothing was trapped under there like Miss Lydia's friends' goose had. I didn't find a thing. I poked and prodded and even squeezed the swollen area
between my thumb and forefinger just to make certain that nothing was inside of it...and there wasn't. He didn't display any signs of discomfort or pain when I squeezed it either. I mean, he didn't like it one bit, that's for sure, but he didn't try to pull away or bite my gf or anything...he didn't even let out a disapproving hhhoooonnnnkkkk to let me know that I'd crossed the line and he'd had enough. So my best judgment at this particular time is to treat it cautiously and conservatively. I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get bigger, painful or infected, and if it does...well, I get sea sick just standing on the pier, there's no need for us to pay to go on a cruise to find that out...lol !!! We can just stay at home and sit out by the pool (kiddie pool that is)...with Gus !!! Thanks for the suggestions and if it doesn't go away on it's own within a week or so, I might try giving him some antibiotics prophylactically. I just really don't like to give them anything unless 1. I know what it is I'm treating (for) or 2. there has been such a drastic demise in their physical, mental or emotional well being so as to warrant the application of unscientific guesswork out of fear that they'll die if something isn't done for them. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again.

@ buff goose guy...so glad to hear that she's at least eating !!! It's been my experience with wounded animals that as long as they still have a few basic drives left (and the love and help of someone who cares about them), they will usually find it in themselves to recover. Good luck !!!

thanks everybody she is going to the vet friday and we'll see what they can do.
