What a precious gosling.Seeing the teen holding an adult buff really puts it into perspective how big they get!!! They really are neat creatures, very inquisitive, talkative and selectively excitable. They sleep through explosions and gun fire during a TV movie, then proceed to loudly tell off my dustpan every time I use it. Got this one of Jupiter today.![]()

Wished you were closer! Would love to add an American Blue to Danyelle's American Buffs! But we are in southeast Arkansas.
You can really see them in the last pic. I have no idea what they could be Kim, Is there anyway to take Gus to a vet? or are you going to wait it out as long as he is acting normal and eating and drinking without problems? Too bad we don't have a Vet who is on BYC so we could post pics or ask questions directly. I have never seen anything like this.So first there were the small downy feathers under Gus' left eye that would grow so long as to turn inward and cause his eye to become so irritated that I'd have to get two other people to come over and help me hold him steady just so I could trim them. Then there was the time that he developed the 'mystery' lump on the side of his face right where his head and bill connect that we narrowed down to being either a reaction to some type of bug bite/sting or that he had, in fact, tried yet once again to consume that which was not consumable, and had paid the price for his curiosity by being either poked or prodded by whatever in the world it was that he thought it would be a good idea to ingest. Thankfully, that 'mystery' bump cleared up on its own after only a couple of days. But not before I had to, once again, round up a couple of friends to hold him tight while I proceeded to inspect the inside of his bill, under his tongue and down his throat, just to rule out the possibility that an object had lodged somewhere in there and created the problem. There wasn't, and for that I am grateful. All seemed to flowing along smoothly around our little piece of insanity, no new ailments for quite some time. Until this past weekend when I noticed that Gus (yes, of course it would be him again), appeared to be sporting a new little dewlap or two, or three...right up under his chin. Now I know I'm new to geese and all, but I don't ever recall seeing an American Buff with a dewlap hanging from his chin before, and especially not three of them...
That's right. Instead of having one largish one, Gus appears to have three smallish ones, all in a row, right under his chin. If his jawbone had the anatomic structure of a pelican's, I'd be apt to say that he's holding three ping pong balls hostage in there !!! Anyway, if anyone could help shed some light on the anomaly that is my Gus, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

P.S. All kidding aside, I really don't know what they could be. They're soft, not hard. They don't bother him and it doesn't hurt him when I squeeze them. They look and feel sort of how I'd imagine a small lump or nodule would look and feel, but yet there's no defined shape or outline of a lump or nodule there to be seen. It's more like he has these three appendages, or apparitions of such, that form little pouches on his neck where a dewlap would be on other geese. It bizarre, that for sure. My gf said she thinks it's just a triple chin...lol !!! I think I'd much prefer it to be ping pong balls. At least they'd be useful !!!

I thought of tumors might be fatty tumors since Kim said they are soft. but a vet could see about drawing off fluid if there is any and know for sure.Could it be tumors?
